sound system question
i just recently installed my alpine mrd-m501 1100watt mono channel amp and hooked it up to the newer alpine type s 900watts 12 inch and when i go to change the cd the sub wont play anymore so i have to pop the hood turn the car to have the stereo play then disconnect the ground on the battery and then connect it again. then the sub plays. any ideas on whats wrong. also whats a good front speaker like with clarity for a 99 civic ex coupe, i have alpine 6/9s in the back and they sound good and they are amped up to a 4 channel 75x4 watt with 40x4 rms alpine amp. Thanks

Re: sound system question
another questions, also the sub is dual 4 ohms so its total of 8ohms. so the sub is 8 ohms and the loweest i could change it is to 2 ohms on 1 amp which would be better havin it stay 8ohms or changin it to 2 ohms on the alpine mrd-m501 1100 watt amp? thanks

Re: sound system question
first off, your Type-S sub only handles 300 watts. The MRD-M500 puts out 500 watts RMS at 2 ohms. Running that sub and amp at 8 ohms is giving it less than 250 watts. Wire it for 2 ohms. And you wanna repeat that question about your sub.

Re: sound system question
the M501 is only rated at 550 watts RMS, not much difference and it isn't peak numbers that you want to look for it's RMS numbers.

Re: sound system question
yes i know, but the 501 puts out 225x1 rms at 12v and 4 ohms and then 425x1 at 4 ohms at 12v so if i changed it the sub to 2ohms wouldnt it have a better chance of blowin the single sub since the sub is 300rms max, also if i kept it at 8ohms and changed it to 14v since the 4ohms at 14v produce 275w rms how would i change it 14v so the 8ohms would have like 245 rms or something like that but a lot higher then what i have since my amp takes in like 12.3v

Re: sound system question
Your vehicles electrical system when it's on is 14 volts. When it's off and running straight off the battery it's at 12 volts. So when you're driving around, your amp is getting 14 volts. Plus, Alpine subs are underrated a bit, they can handle more power and love every bit of it. Wire your sub for 2 ohms.
