Re: Juha Kankkunen Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo Beemax
Little progress on the car, weathering almost done, although I still need to add some more details, mirror, antenna, mudflaps rear bumperguard, auxiliary spotlights exhaust tip etc. This is how it looks so far.

Re: Juha Kankkunen Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo Beemax
Your attention to details and weathering work is astonishing.
Very inspirational build as I plan to build it in the future as well - will use your WIP as reference BTW: Did you know that you can use the base of the engine from Tamiya Toyota 84C to swap engine into this beast? They used the same engine. |

Re: Juha Kankkunen Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo Beemax
Thank you guys. WRCfan, you are one really lucky guy to see the original car!
I made some progress on the car, I finished the weathering and added the details. Now there are only minor thigs left like the wheel valves antenna wingnut andsome rivets on the rear windshield. |

Re: Juha Kankkunen Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo Beemax
That is a simply amazing model with some of the best weathering I've ever seen on a car model - better than many armour models!!
And the details you have put into it are just incredible! Fantastic work! |

Re: Juha Kankkunen Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo Beemax
Thank you guys for the kind words. It was really fun to build this model and experiment with the weathering. Keefr22, you've got the point, as I was always jealous of the armor models for their worn and dirty look, I wanted to try to replicate the weathering on some rally models as the original cars were often extremely dirty.
The Safari Celica gave a perfect base for experimenting - yet being far from perfect, it gave me some ideas and directions to go - and not to overdo it, although there are some good reference for that as well : |

Re: Juha Kankkunen Toyota Celica Twincam Turbo Beemax
I've seen a few build ups of this model and for whatever reason they've looked a bit toy like, a bit plastic. I don't know what you did differently, but yours looks perfect, you captured the look of the real car, so much so that it doesn't look like a model but like the real car!!! I wouldn't have the confidence to apply weathering like you did, but the weathering works and looks fantastic!!! You did a great job on this model, you should be very proud!!
