Waterpump install 03 Sierra. Now running hot.
Installed new water pump and thermostat housing on my 03 gmc sierra. Everything went well until test drive. Temp gets to 260 and does not blow heat. Seems like thermostat wont open. Put old thermostat back in and still temp runs up to 260. Anyone have thoughts on what to do?

Air in the system and/or not enough coolant.

Re: Waterpump install 03 Sierra. Now running hot.
I left cap of reservoir when running engine and added more coolant, seems to have drawn coolant back into system. Heating up now. Thanks for response made a difference.
I guess the takeaway is leave cap off on initial start up and make sure there is enough coolant. Hope this helps another weekend wrencher. 240,000 on this 03 sierra and still running great. |
