Question 2000 Buick Century Passenger Window Regulator Troubles

Hi All, 1st time poster and amateur auto DIY-er (

The car is a 2000 Buick Century Custom (3.1L) Sedan and the front side passenger power window has gone just in time for fall weather. I can move the window itself up and down manually with my hands and cannot seem to hear a motor noise when I hit the switch. I have had the rear windows repaired a few years back for the same issue and I was told it was the window regulators. After getting them repaired by local shop the problem went away and I am assuming it is the same issue this time. I have found parts on line and are actually thinking of attempting the job myself. I wanted to know if this is something easily done in an afternoon with a few tools, time and little patience?? Also, curious if I should think about doing the driver side while I am at it (as a preventative measure??) or better to just wait till it goes bad and worry about it?? Thanks in advance for any feedback....

Sam

The rivets holding the window regulator canbe drilled out with a drill motor, becareful removing hidden scews for the door panel.

you can do repairs in a few hours not to bad of a job.
if you cant hear motor running you might consider(if its not a power issue)
replacing motor/regulator together
as far as the d/side i'd let it go for now

Thanks for the heads up, I plan on tackling this project this weekend. As far as the rivets can you replace those with standard mounting screws or are rivets required?? I am banking that is just what was used at the factory and any standard mounting screws would work just as well....

Sounds good thanks for the feedback I am looking to purchase the regulator/motor together and replace (I did not hear any motor noise when the window switch is pressed), I'm thinking your right as well with the d/side, why toy with it if it is not broken??!!

Re: 2000 Buick Century Passenger Window Regulator Troubles

I have noticed, that bad window regulators plagued all car types.

When opening and closing the doors, make sure the window is all the way up, or all the way down.
I never had a problem until, I had a passenger slam the door shut with the window 1/2 way down. The cable on the window regulator would bounch around and get binded up, the next time you use the electric switch, something is going to break.

$500 service, if you let the shop do it.
