Odd rear tire wear

Ok, first off I want to say hello to everyone. First post in this section, and look forward to many more with you guys! Looks like you know your stuff here..

Have only owned the car for about 5k miles. 2004 SRT-4. 105k miles. Only thing aftermarket is solenoid delete, WG, HKS BOV, CAI, custom 3" exhaust, braided fuel lines and FPR, and SAFC-2 (I know, it needs to be gotten rid of).

Ok, i replaced the tires a little less than 3k miles ago. A full set of Nexen N5000 Ultra High Performance stock tire size. I recently noticed bad wearing of the rear tires, while the front two still look brand new. The tread on rear tires is approximately 50% in only 3k miles.. My first thought was alignment or over-inflation, but upon further inspection, it isn't uneven wear (all tires are checked routinely for proper inflation). Bad alignment wouldn't cause even wear could it? Both rear tires are worn EVEN all the way around, which is why it is so odd to me. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you all in advance!

The first is the front tires. Second is the rear.. And yes, I said only been driven 3k miles!

Re: Odd rear tire wear

...And I just noticed that this should most likely be in the Problems section. If so, mods could you move the post please? Thank you!

Re: Odd rear tire wear

it's still under a 60,000 mile treadwear warranty... go to the tire shop and get some replacements using the mileage installed instead of the tread depth adjustments...
---------------------------------------------

i'm suspecting rear brake calipers are hanging up and/or the parking brake mech in the back are not releasing all the way...

suggest lifting the vehicle and spin both rear wheels to see if they're hanging up or spinning freely with the parking brake off

--------------------------------------------

after you ruled that out, from what i'm reading on other sites,

check for rear toe & thrust angle on the alignment rack (of course, get a printout)

Re: Odd rear tire wear

For that much even wear in that short of a time only on the rears, I say faulty tires.

Re: Odd rear tire wear

So have I ricebike, if the op statements are accurate something is really wrong and I have heard tales of the hit and miss quality of these tires.

Re: Odd rear tire wear

Thanks to both of you.. I will definately get it lifted up tomorrow and do as you suggested ricebike. I had never heard of rear tires on a FWD car wearing so bad, especially after only a few miles. I was going to take the car back in to the tire shop and try and get some kind of replacement with manufacture warranty, but figured I would at least need an alignment printout before they would even think about doing something about it. The reviews I read before I bought the tires were all very positive, but going through now and reading again i'm finding more and more negative. I guess that's what I get for buying cheaper tires.. I will get back to you once I get the chance to mess with it. Again, thank you to you both.
