Rolls Royce silver spur questions

Hi everyone I'am new here and have some questions about the RR silver spur and silver spirit models. First off what are the differances between these two models? Second is I'am looking at a few silver spurs in the '86-'89 model year range,as I love this model's looks and the lines of this car. I also had the chance to drive one of these one a few years back a friend of my uncle's has an '89 black silver spur :-) and I was star struck I coulden't believe I was driving a rolls royce! My more inportant question is what should I look out for when looking at a used example of these RR's? I'am guessing they should have maitance records of service and what not? Also is it true that these RR model use a GM transmissionas well as other componants in the drivetrain? lastly does anyone here have specs as far as what these made for power then? I diddn't get up under the hood or anything on the one I drove. Thanks for any info you guys can give me on these awsome cars.

1) Spur is 4" longer than Spirit
2) Join RROC or RREC to look for a better car
3) Try looking on the RROC-AU website for further information about "What to Know Before Buying A RR"

I agree with the previous poster that the Spur is 4" longer. You can see it in the length of the rear door. The entire difference is in the passenger compartment. This is eaten up if the car has a factory division.

I'm not sure that I'd consider a 1986 for a daily driver. There was a huge electronics improvement in 1987 1/2. These are called 20,000 series due to the serial number. As far as looking at a used example? Two words, Maintenance Records! Get the records and call the provider. Compare the maintenance done to date versus what the records show. You'll pay the difference, but only if you're lucky!

I see a reference to the change in 1987 1/2 that starts with the 20,000 series.
Can someone describe those changes in more detail ?
I do have interest in a Spur that is 1987 and is 16,000 series.
Before this change.

I do not want to make the mistake of buying the wrong/more-difficult car.

Also, tried the RROC-AU and searched for an article ion what to know before buying - and came up empty.
Can anyone recommend another article on what to know before buying ?

I want to buy a RR for personal use, plan to drive it quite a bit,
plan to work on it myself.
