Question Pointing the front wheels straight ahead

Does someone know why you have to point the front wheels straight ahead when disarming the air bag system?

Thanks.

Re: Pointing the front wheels straight ahead

It's probably because they figure you're removing the steering wheel and they want you to have the wheels straight ahead so the steering wheel will light up properly when you got to reinstall it. It might also be so the clockspring/sliding contacts are at their "neutral" position. It could also be some specific reason for the vehicle you are referring to, which is information you didn't share with us.

Re: Pointing the front wheels straight ahead

The instructions are for a ‘97 2500 Chevy pickup. But I’ve seen the same instructions for air bag systems on other makes and models. The clockspring/sliding contacts being in their neutral position, as you said, might have to do with it, plus the impact sensors one may start getting close to past the steering wheel removal. (My guess). Thanks a lot Rod.

@schri00, this related with flexible cable for your horn and airbag with maximum rotate, so just follow the instruction
