01 Alero Egr/Fuel pump issue?

3000+rpm before it shifts unless you let off the accelerator. I had a check engine light and when I used a code reader I got p0404 – EGR valve. I reset this by disconnecting the egr valve and clearing the code with my reader. I was still getting the code so I replaced the EGR valve. After this, I am still having issues with this car. When I try to accelerate it seems to want to cut out. I also recently replaced all the spark plug wires and the fuel filter and this did not solve the problem. I have been told that it may be the catalytic converter, but I was thinking it may possible be a fuel pump. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: 01 Alero Egr/Fuel pump issue?

Didnt know if you had this taken care of yet but the not shifting is either low trans fluid or a shift solenoid is bad.
Sounds like you'll need to hit a trans shop to find out for sure what's wrong.

Also when you replaced the Egr, did you clean out the pipe ???
If you didnt it will probley give you more troubles.

Re: 01 Alero Egr/Fuel pump issue?

What did this issue end up being? I am having the same exact issue. I brought to a transmission shop where they read the P0404 code but said that is probably not really the issue. They could see a lot of misfires happening and said it was definitly not transmission but suggested plugs, wires, and coil. Sounds like you had tried all of that except for the coil.
