external differences porsche 997 /to porsche 991
just checking some images, but dont have any serious bp to see where those 2 models are deeply different (excluding of course the rear lights and front/rear bumpers).
Arent the main body metal parts nearly the same? plz gimme your advise. I plan to convert a 997gt2 into a 991 rsr, and just took a similar object to start with..

Re: external differences porsche 997 /to porsche 991
not at all. they make look similar, but the wheelbase of the 991 is about 4 inches longer than the 997.

Re: external differences porsche 997 /to porsche 991
Not only that, but the entire car is much wider. Subtle design differences from the 997, the 991 has a much larger footprint on the road. To my eyes the 991 is just a bit too large overall, nice car, but I hope the next generation goes back to it's roots a bit more.

Re: external differences porsche 997 /to porsche 991
about wider fenders I am not scared (planning to increase everything to rsr standard) was mostly about wheelbase and to understand where the main central part (a B and c pillars ) may become different.
According to what I know the last model kits done of those racers are referred to 997 gt3. I found a gt2 car, so part of the side are already done. 4 inches in 24th scale becomes how many mm ?? Ps. dp u have any good souce to compare Blueprints of both the cars?

Re: external differences porsche 997 /to porsche 991
Paolo,
ScaleAuto is suppose to be releasing a 1/32 and 1/24 scale version of the 991 RSR from the 2014 LM. This is something they've been working on for over a year now but Im still hopeful it will be released at some point soon. It was announced at the same time as the Viper but I've yet to see any test shots like we got of the Viper early on. I've been checking online but haven't found any updates as of late. David |

Re: external differences porsche 997 /to porsche 991
thanks david, I knew it.
just like you I didnt read anything more until today (they were announced together with viper) and from what I know they are much more focused on 1:32 cars. Seems the only one making this body until now was only Fola from slotfabrik. shame cause the car is so nice and so present in all the most important races around (and 991 is already now an old model around...) I am mostly searching something in plastic around to avoid start work on the welly/burago die cast of 991. I have that model and think is pretty nice, but cut and work on die cast metal is always a pain and I know I cant be so precise as with plastic parts. According to what I know that 991 road version is the only 1 :24 scale model around of this serie.

Re: external differences porsche 997 /to porsche 991
no way.
Checked what I bought...suspect I wasted 30 euros, nut that's it. I HOPE the 997 gt2 could be transformed into a 991 rsr but there are too many differences and this rc body from silverlit is a cute toy (you must see my dog getting mad after her..) but is too far away from a static model project. For now is not the right way....probably the only is to use the burago/welly 991 street car and work on it. so for now this of my project is aborted. ....for now...

Re: external differences porsche 997 /to porsche 991
..or maybe not??
I suppose even this difference in the wheelbasement of the real car was the reason cause we dont hear any longer any news from scaleauto slot about this project. In the 2014 catalogue they placed this rsr in the front page, and was clearly written 1/24. Now at the end of 2015 it all become a 3d rendering....for an 1/32 scale racer. It is probably those wheelbase mm becomes not noticeable keeping a smaller the scale (for slot cars suspect is a matter of precise lower dimensions, cause company chassis are all the same, arent them?). ...to be continued...

Re: external differences porsche 997 /to porsche 991
...and looking many pics around is really incredible to see how they developed those racers in few years. Looking back previous 997's from le mans (with too nice lyveries) all they look already soo old cars..
amazing, really.
