Broken pully

Hey folks

My wife's 98 Contour GL had one of the pulley's break.
It has a Zetec VCT engine.
I've been reading some threads (here and other sites) and some guys say this engine is a non-interference an others say it's not.
Which is it? We had taken it to a local shop and they said she would need a new engine. All they did was remove the timing belt cover.
Here's a pic of her engine.

Re: Broken pully

Non interference motor. Whatever manuals (I think its the Chiltons) say they are interference are wrong.
