Stolen Headunit

Well someone just broke a window in my car last night, and stole my Pioneer DEH-P6600 headunit, along with all my CDs. I wonder, can the police help me, or what would be the next step?

Re: Stolen Headunit

where are you from? I'm not being sarcastic. In my area, if a stereo is stolen it's as good as gone. My suggestion for the next step, start over. Good luck

I live in Northern VA in an upscale neighborhood. I filed a police report, but they said I am probably on my own, since the window is too small for insurance and the CD Player is gone forever. This really blows, I worked at my crappy job for two weeks just for that cd player and my cd collection. My dad will probably pay for a new window, but i'll have to buy a new cd player. Any tips on how not to get it stolen?

Re: Stolen Headunit

Give me the details. Did they take it along with the face? What I do is take the face off every single time, I don't show off what I got either. The only people that know what I got is my friends. Just think about it a little, there's no point in taking a stereo without the face, can't really sell it or use it at all for that matter unless somebody was specifically looking for that particular one. I have plenty of experience with stolen stereos, not firsthand but I've had plenty of people try to sell them to me, trade, or asked if I was looking for one. I know how they work, some of them are friends, most are strangers. Too much of a risk going through the trouble of stealing a faceless stereo if it can't be sold, know what I mean?

Alarms work sometimes, taking the face off, keeping it in a well lit area sometimes helps, Insurance is something that I wouldn't recommend unless you have the extra money. Otherwise, a little common sense, don't show it off to the wrong crowd of people. Hope that helps.

I took off the face, but I did leave it unlocked in the dash. They prob broke into my car because its an older car and they knew it was easy to break into, they took everything related to the stereo including remote and manual.

oo here are some rules to keep your stuff safe

#1 never bump music near where you park/live
#2 always take off your faceplate if possible
#3 make sure u installed the correct bracket and secure it so there is no way for them to take your head unit out reguardless
#4 what i did.. tint.. i got level 4/5 for the front and 5/5 for the back
#5 alarm.. it helps.. get a loud horn for the alarm.. it'll scare the crap outta the robbers

well ok i think those rules are mostly just common sense, i installed my bracket so that you MUST take out everything around it just to get the head unit out.. or for my 860mp there is a lil clip that you can use to get the head unit out incase u want to work on it.. and if possible screw of tie down your subwoofer box.. because usually aside from the head unit the subwoofer gets jacket.. as for amps.. most amps can be screwed in.. then have another piece to cover the screws so theres no way they can jack it

I guess I'll follow those guidelines when I get my new headunit. Strangely my sub box and amp were not taken, even though they are not bolted down in my 1994 Geo Prizm.

Any advice for a good headunit about $200 (online price)? I dont feel like getting the same one again (Pioneer DEH-P6600). I was looking at the Panasonic CQC8100U. Which one do you think is better:

Pioneer DEH-P6600 (The Stolen One):

Panasonic CQC8100U:

http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...&oid=87527&m=0

Or are there better ones for about that price range?

Re: Stolen Headunit

alot of times you can work out something with your insurance...just try talking to them alitlle bit, and if you still have the box/serial number, i would call all the car install places around and tell them to keep a look out for that deck (expecially if they didnt take the harness from the back....) good luck man

Re: Stolen Headunit

Well they did take the harness....but good thing they didnt rip the wires or it could have been worse. Any specific model I should look for a kenwood, kenwood guy?

Re: Stolen Headunit

anyone that can take the kenwood music keg That in my opinion is the best invention ever the head unit attaches to the music keg and acts like a cd changer but it can hold 100 times more song with cartrages that are linked to your computer when you need more songs if you get one look to be sure that headunit can take the music keg from kenwood but it needs to be a kenwood headunit and nothing else.. it wont work
