Forget the Swedish car. The fastest "production" car is the '94 Dauer 962. Although this was a Le Mans car, the road version is not just a race car with 2 seats. It is kinda luxurious, and was built as a proper road car. This thing has a twin turbo inline 6 with 730 hp. 0-60 takes 2.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 mph dead. i think this should get the credit it deserves as the fastest road car ever, and i bet it leaves the McLaren for dead through the corners

On the subject of expensive write offs, i know someone whose F40 got burnt out! When in for a service at the ferrari dealer they had to lift the engine out to complete the service and in doing so knocked the fuel line against the engine. When the guy drove it the fuel line rubbed thru and leaked onto the red hot engine, and then caught fire and burnt out. He now has a new one though

Yeah, 962's are kind of top of the food chain. Except for a 917/30... I think that is the fastest street car.

I remember a Road and Track issue, they put a 962 against a nascar Chevrolet, and the stock car won.

Of course, they had the 962 set up for full race downforce, so it couldn't get above about 230mph. The stocker was running little downforce, and made 240mph

True those cars my in the end be faster, but can any of them claim to have GOLD in the engine bay???

I didn't think so.

Or how about Titanium tools with the toolkit being shaped to the tools in the car? Or soon having the ability to diagnose problems anywhere in the world (not having to take it to the dealership. they also will know how fast you have gone for how long, and highest engine speed). Or everytime you get the car worked on having every bolt touched replaced with a new one??

...sorry for the rant got carried away. But I'm sure you get the point. Most of those cars are being designed to beat the f1 in specs but what about service and build quality??

For $1,000,000 each i should hope they had gold in the engine bay, in fact for that much i would expect the whole damn car to be made out of gold

all of thoses details may be very good, but for £25,000 (about $38,00) a service, i would be pretty pissed off if it didnt have titanium tools and the ability to diagnose a problem anywhere in the world!

a service in britain costs £25,000, and i reckon that is maybe 38 thousand dollars?

and no matter how rich i was i would expect just a little bit more than a spare tyre for that much!
