cold chevy s10

This is the scenario:

  • 2000 Chevy s10
  • The cold air works great however the heat doesn't seem to work at all
  • The defrost works but only cold air comes out even if I have the blend door on full heat.
Can anyone tell me what the possibilities are. I couldn't find the blend door on the passenger side, I've checked the hoses and they seem fine, except for the following pic Could this have to do with the loss of heat?

Re: cold chevy s10

Hoses seem fine? Please elaborate- both need to be too hot to hold.

Does your truck have a water shut off/bypass valve on heater hoses? This could be stuck shut.

Other than that, number one cause of "no heat" is loss of coolant- is there plenty in your radiator? No just checking the burp box-need to know if radiator is full.

Temp door inside is the last place to look- only if both hoses are hot.

Re: cold chevy s10

How do i check the hoses to see if too hot to hold, i imagine the truck must be on and the a/c on as well

I don't know if there is a bypass/off valve on the heater hoses, what should they look like

I didn't know the radiator could be empty, i just assumed that because the burp box as you call it is full the radiator is full as well.

there is one other thing, there is a strange smell in the cab sometime, smells a little sweet and like something else but cant pin point it. however there is a film on the inner windshield and i wipe it and a couple days its back. could this be part of the problem and what should i do. Thank you for communicating with me on this.

Leaking heater core or hose connection on the firewall.

I think you have a leaking heater core.

Their is a rubber drain tube the air conditioning systems drains condensate. The heater core is located next to the evaporator. If you have jack stands locate this hose. Place a big piece of cardboard under the firewall and passenger seat. Available free at a furniture store. Anti freeze leaves deposits depending on what type you use.
A hose fitting will be close to the firewall use a flashlight and look.
