New rider/old bike
Well I finally got me a bike. Its an oldie but runs like a dream. Honda Nighthawk 650. Only has 10K on it and it got it for 500 bucks from a cash strapped bud! Anyways I have rode motorcycle's before but now that it's MINE it feels so different! So my question is this. When yall first started riding did you just jump out on the roads or did you stick to the "back" roads and learn your bike there? Thanks for any advice.

Aw, sweet! Congrats on the purchase. Those bikes are decent!!!
I took the MSF course and then bought my bike. I live in suburbia with a few short ways to get out into "the cut" so I pretty much stuck to learning on back roads to test both my comfort limits and the bike's comfort limits as well. As for testing ability limits, I waited for the track to push those

The one thing i'm really having to learn is to trust my bike. Especially when i go into a turn. Its weird but i'm getting used to it. Unfortunently since i don't live in a "big city" i can't take the MSF course until Jan. But in the mean time i figure i will just do a little cruisin on the back roads to get used to my bike and improve my riding skills. Plus being in texas you can get a 77 degree afternoon to ride in November!!! Go figure!
