buy a c5?

Hi all,

Well here i am thinking about my next car, and whilst i had thought about all the really mundane choices, i'm now thinking about somthing a little different, a C5.

I do 40000 miles/year, so it has to be diesel, can anyone tell me just how suited to this sort of milage a C5 would be. My cars are given very good treatment (my 2001 Punto for 2 years has done this mileage and she still is in great condition!), so any thoughts, and C5 owners out there???

Thanks, Mark.

Re: buy a c5?

The C5 is a good car (overall since the lifting). With the 2.2 Hdi 173hp, it becomes a really pleasant car to drive. The confort remains the best of the category.
My godfather had a C5 (the old one) in 2.2 hdi 136hp, he had it for 3 years and 170 000 km (more or less 110 000 miles) and had no problem with it. Then he changed for the new (in 2004) Peugeot 407 2.0 Hdi 136hp. He's very happy with this car too, the only thing is that it's a little bit less confortable.
Have you think about the wonderful new Alfa 159 ?

Re: buy a c5?

Half a year ago I bought a second hand C5 Break, a 2.2 Hdi FAP Exclusive. These was the most expensive version, and most were sold with an autobox, but fortunately not the one I found. The car is from 2002 and had only done just over 90,000 kms.
I had it chiptuned (in the same way as my previous Xantia Hdi 110) and it now has about 165 BHP and 360 NM of torque, which makes it a quite convincing car on the motorways, and puts it in the same performance levels as the new twin turbo version. (for just 400 Euro).
It is a great car, very relaxing, but less frugal than the Xantia. Getting 1 liter every 15-16 km, means sedate driving, and using the power will give more like 1/13 to 1/14 km.

Re: buy a c5?

The C5 is heavyer and more powerful (2.2hdi) than the Xantia (2.0 hdi), that's why the consumption is higher.
I've a 406 Coupé with the same engine (but still with 136hp) and it's still quite economic.
Where do you live ?
