04 broken engine cradle frame bolt at the back
hi I was working on my 2004 cav.. needing to replace clutch in my tranny..
2 spots bolts broke off... the front rubber mount for the tranny.. the head broke off so I cant get rubber out... and the passanger side the frame bolt that holds the engine up.. it broke right off at the head.. that 6" bolt or so.. driver side came out.. passanger side didn't.. now I cant lower engine to remove transmission... how do you fix this problem as I cant be the only one with it |

Re: 04 broken engine cradle frame bolt at the back
here the couple pics ... the 1 is the rubber mount.. all I can think is torch the rubber out and get the bolt out...
now you see in other pic how the bolt holds in frame well that broke off the head so the entire bolt is in there.. I cant lower car since that bolt goes on an angle... what tricks have you guys done |

Re: 04 broken engine cradle frame bolt at the back
I haven't done this job but it looks like the bolt goes through the rubber mount with a nut on the other side. If this the case and the bolt head is off try a double box or ratchet and socket on the nut if it will rotate. Use a punch and drive out the broken bolt. Otherwise if you have a small side angle grinder try going along the side of the rubber and cut the bolt on both sides. If trying a torch be very careful and have a fire extinguisher readt for the fire as the rubber melts I suggest other methods. With the vehicle on jack stands have a floor jack with a couple short pieces of 2x4 on the jack. support under oil pan. Just take strain off of mount.

Re: 04 broken engine cradle frame bolt at the back
ah ok for the rubber mount I figure the bolt is seized in the rubber I could probably try I guess gripping the bolt on the otherside with vise grips no way to use box wrench head of the bolt twisted off
and I guess no idea how to get the subframe down since that bolt sheared off at the head too... and I tried to use air chisle to separate sub frame engine cradle thing and the frame of car but now its jammed in there lol |

Re: 04 broken engine cradle frame bolt at the back
I would use a side angle grinder and cut the bracket off the rubber.

Only way to get that out is the way rhandwo said. Cut between the bracket and the mount on both sides.
