Re: AWD drifters???
(actually, race cars with torque convertors can, and do, have massive hp)
my friend's 73 nova. 350 chevy, 500hp. 3 speed auto, shifted manually, 3400rpm stall tq. convertor. the easy street wrx, making 750+hp, uses an auto. but not drift cars. but that's besides the point. my point has been made, i'm just clarifying everything else here... |

I drive an awd impreza ,and I got two ways to make it drift:
1st one is somehow little risky due to high speed+hard breaking when entering a corner ?? and that will shift the weight to the front wheels which cause loss in traction at the rear wheels then go full throttle while turning the wrong way and I did it 4 or 5 times but in the last time I lost my rear bumper cuz I was going really faster than what I should go then I create a new way to drift awd cars and much safer hard understeering can cause oversteering = AWD drift this is my new way to drift in my impreza and I'm still practicing to go faster but it's really cause a heavy load on the front axles and I have a bad feeling that something will happen to them by the time due to heavy understeering u know ??! |

somehow, i fail to see how you explained what you did? in awd cars like yours, the "scandinavian flick" will get you drifting. power into a corner, turn hard into the turn, the kick the wheel back out, opposite lock style. keep on the gas. there was a "5th gear" video in which tiff needell demonstrated this perfectly, in an sti, an evo, a skyline, and a 911 turbo awd. works in fwd cars as well... |

I have the video you speak off if nebody wants it. That video made me want a imprenza to bad can't get a P1 in here in the states. But we can get 2.5RS. Does nebody know of a place that imports older evo's? 4,5,6?? If don't get a imprenza i want a evo. Also has nebody seen a TT imprenza drift??. I've only seen one tt imprenza *speaking of blitzen engine swap** and it was draging.

Re: AWD drifters???
dude, its possible to drift in a AWD car if that person has the right technique. For me, all i know how to make a awd drift is, the center. and rear differetials, new driveshaft, tires, suspension, and probably a lightweighted awd car. but you cannot drift in an awd unless you have technique...and have a awd car..

Re: AWD drifters???
here...found an example of a Skyline GTR33 drifting. And as you can tell, as it drifts, the AWD automatically seems to counter-steer itself while in a deep drift. And if this were not to be an AWD GTR33, it'd be oversteering alot more.

last weekend I took my R32 GT-R out to a local drifting arena, and after two or three tries at different techniques I found heavy breaking into the corner will break the rear end loose. After that just floor it.

Re: AWD drifters???
OK, not only can you drift an AWD. I have pics of me DOING IT at an actual drift track near Kudamatsu here in Japan with my old Evo GSR that I used to have have.
I wasn't going to try it but since it was raining I thought "why not" since due to the slick conditions of the track I wasn't worried about putting too much stress on the drivetrain. I will say that the overall experience was lots of fun but I wouldn't ever do it again. Here's the deal about drifting and I'm just gonna say it as simply as I can. With enough speed and power, you can put ANY car into a slide... big deal. If you are REALLY interested in drifting, get a car that's good for drifting and quit screwing around. AWD cars are horrible drift cars and it puts too much stress on a power train that was designed specifically to keep the car planted to the ground. |

Re: AWD drifters???
lol i have a twin turbo awd aws an it is a bit more to get it into a drift but i have gotten it down - the only thing the aws seems to do is shorten the length of the drift if you dont know how to throttle it properly as we found out my friend jw sucks at it when he tried to drive my ride ... it looked like a 10 year old's first time in a driver seat ... it was rather amusing for the rest of us ...

Re: AWD drifters???
so, with technique it is possible to drift in a AWD car. I hate Initial D people who think they can drift in a STOCK 240sx or any rear-wheel drive. One time, my friend who owns a 240, told me he could drift. Went with him and he MADLY understeerd then Oversteered into a 360. OMG, and he said he learned it by watching INITIAL D! OMG...! INITIAL D IS FAKE GUYS
