Understanding the Apex

Okay okay I know what the apex is and what to do. The Apex is when you're done with your trailbraking, start accelerating and when you're past it you accelerate fully and you shouldn't have to turn the wheel to over-correct. My question is where is the apex in a given corner, how much braking I do before the turn in point, then jump to the apex so that it's not early or late? I need some examples and some advice on this matter, thanks.

Initially you should be late apexing every thing. that will give you the slowest corner entry and the fastest corner exit. Once you get that down, then you can start exploring when an early apex in a string of truns may be usefull.

BTW, On a race track, the dimentional apex of a turn is never going to be the fastest way around the track. your either going to late apex or early apex, and 9 times out of 10 your going to late apex.

The 1st drawing shows the "dimentional" apex, and then 2nd one shows the faster late apex.


Regardless, cornering theory dictates that the best line is the one that gives you the longest acceleration zone coming out of a given turn.

LVApex covered it pretty good. The only thing I'd like to add is to try different apexes and ways of taking the corner and see which nets a better time.
