Door won't open
Hello, I have a 2002 grand prix gtp 4 door and the passenger front door won't open and I need some help. It won't open from the outside or inside, and when I first unlocked the doors it didn't fully unlock so I manually unlocked it but still won't open from either side. Since the door doesn't open I can't get the trim off to see what's going on. Anyone have any ideas?? THANKS!!!

Re: Door won't open
Try a slim jim. But you'll have to get down to the latch and hopefully catch onto the release lever. Maybe AAA can help ya but they usually hook onto the linkage rod between the latch and the lock button/lever on the inside handle, which is probably unhooked causing the problem. HTH

Re: Door won't open
Thanks for replying. Sorry it took me so long to say so but haven't been on much lately. I will have to see about getting a slim jim.

Re: Door won't open
If you can't get the slim jim to work on the passenger side, what I would do is remove the door trim and peel back the water barrier, and "practice" with a slim jim on the driver's side........that way you will have a "feel" for it on the passenger side.....
Unfortunately, it's unusual for the linkage to come off for the inside and outside door opening handle/latches...... what I have seen is, a rust problem in the latch itself.....if that's the case, that door panel will have to be removed(can be done), and a penetrant will have to be sprayed on the latch mechanism, and all the linkage connections will have to be manually manipulated, repeatedly.....eventually, it should open....will take patience..... |
