05 Freestar underhood squeal

I have a 2005 Freestar (3.9L), and just had the coil pack, wires, and plugs replaced, as I was getting the random misfire code. Now 1 month later, i am experiencing a new problem: At EXACTLY 2200rpm, there is a loud squealing sound, and if left at the rpm long enough, the engine will die. It will restart without a problem, but @ 2200rpm, whether under load or in park, it will do the same thing every time. Any clues??????

Do you have a CEL light showing on the dash? It could be the camshaft sensor assembly causing that, squeal then stall, symptom.

No there is no CEL when this happens, nor after I re-start the engine.....

Re: 05 Freestar underhood squeal

There have been others that reported that they have a squealing and no CEL light for the p0340 camshaft synchronizer shaft problem. The oil shaft and gear wear, and make noise, the friction overheats the top electronics that are plastic causing the engine to shut down. The camshaft synchronizer tells the pcm when to open the fuel injectors at the correct time.

Just my guess is, yours is not bad enough to cause a cel light yet.

Some people have unplugged, removed the top plastic electronics synchronizer removing the 2 small bolts from the metal shaft assembly and squirted a few drops of clean oil inside and solved the problem temporarily. You may want to give this a try 1st, and see if it helps your shutdown issue and noise @ 2200 rpms. Should only take 15 minutes for the oiling job.
