AF 2005 Build Meet?
So the Model of the Year contest has concluded- good job RallyRaider (and everyone else who entered), and thanks again to Primera Man for running the show!
It was definately a good show of builds- but it was a bit disappointing that we didn't see more entries. One of the best things about the MOTY contest every year is to see a showcase of people's builds from the last year. There's a huge amount of talent on ths forum, and it's always fun to see everyone's work shown off together. I think it would be really cool if we could manage a more comprehensive showing of builds from the past year, and have it in such a way that it won't disappear after the contest ends. So, I'd like to propose an AF 2005 Meet. Not a contest, but just a chance for everyone to show off their best/favorite work from '05. Rules: -Everyone post their one favorite/best build completed in 2005 -Any type or category, car or bike -Post maybe 1-3 pics, and a description of your build -Including a link to a build thread is encouraged -Host the images whereever- but please host them in a place that the images will be indefinately availible. It would be great to have everyone's pics to look back on in years to come. Also, be reasonable with pic size. Don't feel constrained by an 80kb limit, but please nothing huge. -Models entered in the MOTY contest, as well as models not entered, are all welcome I would guess that the best place for this would be in the In Progress and Completed- Street and Show meet directory, but it would be great to include Motorsport builds as well in the same meet. Maybe place a link to it in the Motorsports meet directory, too? Any thoughts?

Sounds good. I was a little disappointed with the number of entries, though the quality of entries was spectacular.

I like it!
Also a moderator or a member could manage that gallery and make it indexed, for example with nickname+thumbnail in the frontpage, this could allow to have some better performances despite some photobucket server's fault and let the same relevance to all entries. Good idea MPWR, I'm in (I complete only 1)

Is ImageShack considered to be "eternal" enough?

I do want to avoid a small file size limit, just so people don't have to 'cram' their image/s to get them to fit- so I don't think mandating AF's image hosting is a good solution. Even more with the recent troubles it's been having (and many of us also have long since filled our accounts, and moved elsewhere for hosting). As Stevenski pointed out, Imageshack claims to be permanent. It's also free and easy. We can certainly urge people to use it (or something similar). But unless someone wants to volunteer more permanent hosting, or has another solution, I think the best we can do may be what we always do- leave file size and image permanance to the posters.

Re: AF 2005 Build Meet?
Cool idea, will we have separate ones for street and motorsport?
I wonder if in future we could change the AFMOTY so that all the models built during the year are posted in a thread like this then a dozen or so are nominated for entry into the competition proper? Probably a bit too complicated to make work in a slick manner. |
