here,s a halloween special=-

1998 Lumina. About 236,000 miles on 3.1 litre.

A week ago I was running errands around town and the engine was normal op temp.
I was out of the car for 5 minutes.
When I restarted the car the vent motor wasn,t putting out.
So I tried to open the windows and none would open.
Then the brake light lite on the dash.

I turned off the car for a few seconds and restarted and nothing unusual happened since then.

Weird science or halloween ?

Re: here,s a halloween special=-

since then this happened.
i drove to the store and went in shopping with the keys in my pocket.
when I got back in the car the vent was blowing air.
This can,t just be the vent motor.

BTW= in the past I posted= when climbing a high bridge or hill the vent fan will temporary stop blowing.
As I ride over the crest and head down it starts back up.
One of the good automotive forums guys said it,s probly the vacuum ball in the left front fender. or some vacuum line near the passenger firewall.

That's it... somebody's trying to kill you. Did you tell anyone that you have information that could lead to Hillary Clinton's arrest?

On a more serious note, it does sound like there might in fact be some sort of vacuum leak. When the brake light came on, did the brakes actually do anything strange?

The vacuum reservoir and its check valve/lines would be a prime suspect for the air delivery symptom. I've had this happen multiple times.

Incidentally, you CAN get a new vacuum reservoir if the original is damaged:

What do you mean by the "vent motor"?

The same Heat, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) blower motor is responsible for pushing air out of any of the dash or floor vents. The vacuum system will revert to "defrost" if vacuum supply is poor.

The HVAC blower motor is not affected by vacuum, and has no vacuum connections. It's electric. If the HVAC blower motor is turning on and off based on vacuum or throttle position, your car needs an exorcist, not a mechanic.

OTOH, if the air flow is diverted to the defroster openings in the dash from any of the other vent openings based on low vacuum or heavy load, yeah, I'd be looking at the vacuum hose and vacuum reservoir ball. I've made several repairs to the vacuum hose system between engine intake manifold, and the vacuum balls on my '92 and my '93. I know the hose system has ANOTHER leak when the cruise control won't hold speed on long upgrades. I have more problem with the cruise than with the dash vents when the vacuum leak is small.
