Ice/Snow buildup inside 2010 Pilot LX steel wheels
I have a 2010 Pilot LX with the 17 in. steel wheels. The wheels have a lip on the outside which cause them to collect ice and snow in the rims. This leads to a severe out of balance condition which can only be solved by bringing the vehicle inside to thaw out. Since I live in a northern climate this is a real issue. I bought the vehicle last spring and have only 5,000 miles on it. If anyone else is having similar problems, I would like to hear about them and any solutions you may have.

Re: Ice/Snow buildup inside 2010 Pilot LX steel wheels
I have a 2011 CR-V LX with the steel wheels and recently experienced terrible ice accumulation in the inside of the steel rims during a snowstorm in Maine. It was 10" of snow and I was driving on unplowed roads but had never experienced anything like this over 20 years with multiple Volvos and Subarus. Couldn't drive over 25 mph, finally used the long end of a snow brush to remove most of the ice and then had to go to a car wash and blast it out with the high pressure washer.
I wrote a nice letter to Honda who had been very solicitous of my opinion of my new vehicle and their polite Customer Service person called me and said that this was the first they had ever heard of this problem. So if you have this problem too - my suggestion is to call Honda Customer Service at 1-800-999-1009 and let them know. In looking at the design I can't imagine that this would be as big of a problem with the alloy wheels - had I only known..... wishing someone had warned me and I would have upgraded to the SE with the alloys. |
