Transmission Shifts too Quickly
My tranmission will shift into third by about 45 km/h. If i give it a little more gas it downshifts quickly and gives me more power.
Any suggestions to address this problem would be appreciated. Also, I added a shift kit/fluid + filter change, last September when the hard shifting started. |

Re: Transmission Shifts too Quickly
Usually thats what "shift kits" do. Not sure of what you expected when you made this conversion. Who's kit is it and what did they promise?

Re: Transmission Shifts too Quickly
When i installed the shift kit it wasn't giving me the problem i mentioned. After the install, shifts were now 'typical' of most automatics i've driven. This 'sloppy' problem seems to have surfaced in the last couple weeks. If i drive aggressively then there is no shifting issue, just when i drive carefully, as when i have the family in the car.
The kit was TransPro for the 4T65-E transmissions. |

Re: Transmission Shifts too Quickly
What year/model GM is this, early 90's? Mileage? Serviced regular? Or was that the first service you're aware of ? Hard upshifts? Possible sudden downshifting on braking? Gets worse as it warms up?

240,000 km I bought it used so not sure of maintenance. The transmission gave NO problems what-so-ever. Added Lucas transmission additive for added protection. Then after 20,000 km or so, started the hard up-shifting. Changed the fliud/filter and added shift kit in september. All hard up-shifts stopped. Now the quick up-shifts. |

Re: Transmission Shifts too Quickly
The shift kit has nothing to do with shift timing... The trans go 4T65E kit is a good kit that corrects for some of the issues the 4T65E's have... The shifts and speed of the shift is 100% controlled by the PCM, shift quality and line pressure are also controlled by the PCM...
If the van is shifting too early or earlier than it ever has before, you need to look at the TPS readings to see if they are within spec, the load or throttle angle that the PCM see effects the trans shift point, trans shift quality( line pressure ) and kick down... You may also need to check and see if you have any stored codes... as well the PCS( Pressure Control Solenoid ) likes to go bad in the 97-02 4T65E's, this is a very common problem, the shift kit is not a fix for this problem, but more like a band aid.... Again, this trans is 100% electronic, the shift kit has nothing to do with the shift timing... |
