Revell AMG GT - rear bumper fit

Just got mine today and I'm having a hard time getting the rear bumper to fit properly. If you try to line up the sides, the center wants to ride high. Anyone else experience this and came up with a solution?

Re: Revell AMG GT - rear bumper fit

Hi, I got my rear bumper fitted without any problems. I've just added some putty on the right side of bumper. Afterward fitment became top-notch – https://hobbylink.tv/members/firun/activity/143415/

Thanks. Mine's all messed up. Typical Revell...something is warped or otherwise off.

It's always something with Revell.

How bad are your tires?

I don't even have this kit yet but already know the wheels and tires will go to the dumpster.

I haven't even looked, because I'm waiting for the Plamoz wheel/tire set. I'm just frustrated at the rear bumper. I spent an hour and a half last night playing with it and made a glue mess I have to clean up. I line it up in one spot, thinking I could force other spots into submission, but nope, something would get out of alignment. It doesn't seem like the builds so far by most of our European friends encountered this issue, so maybe the batch to the U.S. got screwed up.

Re: Revell AMG GT - rear bumper fit

I had same issue. Had to remove some plastic in middle section in order to properly line up the bumper with body on both sides. I was not successful. Whatever I did the trunk lid does not smoothly flow into bumper, there is a small step.
Wheels and tyres are not that bad, they look like 18 or 19 inch. Better than in Porsche 918, still not reaching Aoshima or Fujimi offering.
What I do not like is the wheel mount system, Revell again changed the way the wheels attach to body, bud there is almost no shock absorbers or suspension detail.

Yeah, I can see now why there are only 93 parts. I want to say that I think Revell rushed this kit, but they had a year to develop it. Really, I think they were being cheap.

And why can't they get the manufacturing right? Tamiya, Aoshima and Fujimi kits never have warp issues like Revell kits.

**Update: after tweaking the bumper and body and sanding here and there, I've forced it on with two-part 5 minute epoxy to an acceptable result for me to now start filling with putty and shaping (in particular the light sockets), and smoothing out the joints. It looks worse in these close up photos than in person. On the bright side, I haven't noticed many sink marks, which is a usual Revell trait.

Re: Revell AMG GT - rear bumper fit

Update 2 - not so fast! The chassis pan now doesn't fit properly. It sits proud of the front wheel arches about a millimeter, and its because of the rear bumper. The chassis buts against and rests on tabs extending from the bottom of the bumper. This is quickly turning into a disaster. I 've now removed the rear bumper that I glued and am dry-fitting things, and nothing fits. The chassis pan still doesn't fit properly with the rear bumper off and the interior bucket in place.

Check the pins located on front wheelarches – they are making fitting impossible.

Yeah, I suspected them, but another problem I have in huge gaps between the chassis and the sides of the body. Did you have that? The weird thing is that nothing looks warped.

I've emailed a contact at Revell and they want photos to investigate whether its a quality issues, as they received mostly positive reviews.

Nope, body and chassis on mine get together pretty well. Will publish photos in couple of hours, when I get home. Ask Revell for spare parts – I guess they have sold you defective kit.

Re: Revell AMG GT - rear bumper fit

Another update: having always had better luck buying Revell-Germany kits from European rather than american stores like Tower Hobbies, I bought another AMG GT on eBay UK and have no fit issues with the rear bumper. I still had to shave down the front strut towers to get the chassis to sit properly, though.

I say I've had better luck with European stores, because when I purchased the Ferrari California years ago, the plastic bags for the US boxed kits were wrapped too tight and the windshield pillars were severely bent, but not so with the European packaged kit I also bought.

I bought both the McLaren and Merc from Europe and UK, and my McLaren body got squashed in the box, so when I build it, I get to deal with this

Re: Revell AMG GT - rear bumper fit

Ugh that's annoying. I had the same worry when I saw the box my Mclaren was packed in. It was more like a cardboard folder and not a box with supportive sides. Luckily, it wasn't squished.

The kit box was pretty beat up, they didnt really pack it very good , in fact, I think it was just a folder as you described.
