Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....

I've been trying to figure out what the other car is, looks to me like a 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL or some silhouette type thing.

Let's just hope that "M" company is in fact McLaren and not Mazda (nothing against Mazda)

Kind of a let down. Not really a big fan of the long tail. Would have preferred a 1995 or 1996 GTR.

Simplified version of the Aventador kit reportedly didn't sell very well, and Aoshima designer is quoted by saying that they'll have to adjust the business strategy, so we'll most likely get the BMW V12 engine.
I wonder if either Aoshima or Fujimi learned of their intent to make the McLaren. Both companies outsource the tooling, so it's nearly impossible to keep everything secret. Maybe one of them got an inside info, and decided to avoid a conflict.

Added: Three versions from three companies all in the same year...sounds too good as a mere coincidence.

I would expect Fujimi to make 1995/1996 F1-GTR, if road version sells well. Besides Fujimi is known
for following good sales of MFH kits with their own plastic versions.

I hope lessons were learnt by both companies. Full detail F1-GTR is much better then curbside or semi-detail. McLaren F1 deserves it !

Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....

Spread the wealth, I suppose??

For me who builds roadcars solely, Aoshima's announcement was a let down, and I just placed my order for the Fujimi McLaren. I was let down because 1) I was thinking that Aoshima would make a better kit than Fujimi (maybe not true given Fujimi's latest solid effort, the very nice Ferrari F12) and 2) I don't consider the F1 GTR Longtail a "supercar" as announced by Aoshima. A "supercar" implies an expensive, powerful road car. The longtail is a race car, not a supercar. So, Aoshima made two announcements - race and rally cars.

I wonder how the market will react.

Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....

I for one, am very thankful for this kit.

I do agree that this is a race car rather than a supercar, but I'm not going to split hairs.

Just leave the decals off, slap on some number plates like this one from Goodwood 2005.... and there's your supercar.

McLaren produced, if I'm not wrong, 3 Longtail road cars.
