Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....
It does indeed look very good.
Lots of details for a plastic kit at a sensible price. |

Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....
Mine is on it's way ...... minus the PE set..... seems HLJ didn't receive enough to cover their pre-orders.
At least the kit should be here early next week, looking forward to this one. Regards, Dan

Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....
I want to receive mine together with a PE set which is not available on HLJ at the moment despite of they were reserved by me in one time. So I have left the kit in a personal warehouse at HLJ.

The PE set looks rather poor to me, certainly not worth the 12 Euros price, especially with that race harness in 1 piece.

Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....
Mine has arrived.
I already knew Fujimi's front overhang was too short based on various reference photos, and Aoshima kit verifies the problem. Rear overhang (up to the wing) should be the same in both kits, but Fujimi's tail section is too short and too tall. |

Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....
Just ordered mine from Mark at http://www.mshobbies.com/ . I ordered both the kit and the photoetch set. I emailed Mark on Sunday and he said his order was due to leave Japan on Monday. So hopefully he'll have it by weeks end or so.
Now, just need to see who is going to produce some decal sets for the Aoshima kit. I'm curious as to whether the aftermarket Fujimi ones out there already might fit the new Aoshima kit? David |

Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....
Potential door fitting problem in Aoshima due to packaging....they stuffed a lot of parts in the box which is rather thick. One of my doors A-pillars is a bit out of shape already.

Re: Aoshima has a Supercar secret to share... its a M.....
Don't understand why they offer this preseason test version and not a full race version with full livery in the box? Is this version that appealing? Size differences to the Fujimi kit are minimal, I really don't see them as such a massive issue. The engine detail also looks like it's been toned down. It's not as detailed now as was first shown on their Facebook page many months ago. I've cancelled mine and will build the further two Fujimi kits I already have. To be honest it's took ages to get here and left me very much underwhelmed...

I disagree with you Steve. The race versions will be issued later. The level of detail is high, the overall proportions are perfect. Aoshima even has reproduced an engine with a clutch for those who wants demonstrate an engine separately. The Fujimi's McLaren has many many fatal inaccuracies and is very poor detailed.

Good thing is that Aoshima is planning to release race versions later (endurance headlight parts are already previewed on FB etc.), and Aoshima's Mr. Supercar sighed at all the license work he had to do. Fujimi's inaccuracies are fixable. The front is very easy. You just add a piece of plastic to extend the nose by 2 mm or so, and apply putty to blend with the body. The rear is more involving, and I'm only fixing once, and copy the part. Fujimi's long tail kit has a great value as a curbside thanks to standard PE and Cartograf decals. Level of details in Aoshima kit is not toned down. In fact, it's better than expected. Engine details are superb, and the steering is a four-piece assembly, which is unusual in 1/24 scale. But Aoshima kit does have minor and minor problems. There's no gear box, but only the top part is represented, and the rear lower suspension arms are molded with the floor, which is a turn off. More serious problem is on the front cowl. Left and right louvers are lined up, but they should be angled when viewed from the top. Headlight covers and louvers seems too large (or sit too far to the sides). There should be a narrow space between the press line on the finder arch and the line that travels along the side of the headlight cover and the louvers. This will be harder to fix than Fujimi's nose. Despite shortcomings, I think both kits are fine for what they are. Aoshima offers great details, while Fujimi kits are economical alternatives for those who build several curbside kits. Since I build in both styles, I got both. Fujimi decals work in most cases, except for the ones that are cut along the panel lines. Panel lines don't match exactly between the two kits, and you'll have to either cut a portion of the decal, or touch up the missing area. |
