Exhaust problems.......
Hi all.
I hope I've put this in the right place. I have a 1998 Omega 2.5 V6 ecotech saloon. My cat went last week, but only rattles on tick over. The problem I am having is the engine seems to be restricted. I get a whooshing noise when I put my foot down, but the car doesn't seem to run as fast, or feel as fast. I've only had the car a month, and no nothing of these cars. Before the cat went, it went like a rocket. But now all I get is a whooshing or hissing noise, and it just doesn't feel right anymore. Can anyone throw any light on the subject? |

Re: Exhaust problems.......
If the catalytic converter has failed, the honeycomb matrix inside it has probably found its way into your muffler and is blocking the exhaust gas flow, or the cat has melted and is blocking its exit.
Best method of diagnosis: Tap a soft blow hammer on the rear muffler(and middle muffler if it has one) and if it sounds like marbles in a tin can, then you need a new exhaust system.

Re: Exhaust problems.......
Hi mmcleo11.
I took my car to Orbit Tyres on Saturday afternoon, and asked if they could check my exhausts for me. Luckily for me, the bloke who was checking my car over used to be a Vauxhall Mechanic, so he knew a lot about the car. He showed that the cats are fine, but it was the both middle boxes that had gone, and the whooshing noise I was getting is the brocken muffler blocking the rear exhast. Hense the lack of power at the moment. The rear silencer joints had seen better days too, so I was quoted for 2 exhaust systems, one was for £285.00 (which is the standard type for this car) and £205.00 For a cheaper system ( it rasps a bit) So car is being collected by them from my place of work, and being fitted today. Many thanks for your reply.
