WIP: Is it possible to convert this 15+ years (at least) old junk into something that looks a bit like a model?

I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to toys probably that's why I still have this cheap friction powered suv that looks somewhat like a Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero. Do you guys think its possible give this junk a makeover and turn it into something that looks a bit decent?

No interior hence tint windows man its cheappp. You can actually see part of the friction motor thru that hole

What do you guys think? Go for it or just forget it?

is this 1/24? if it is, then go for modding this (well ok, i can get lazy and this scale would give me a lot of option parts lol).

Yeah bro, this is the one I was talking about. Its bigger than 1/24, it looks like 1/20-ish. I'll take some measurements and let you know it's exact scale. This will be a quick build since I'll just give the pajero a makeover it badly needs since it left China. I don't have any putty since I never used it on anything before. So as usual I just used basic stuff to fix it. Filled the holes with glue, fixed the A-pillar with melted plastic which didn't turn out that good, then some sanding and sprayed some silver. Just waiting for it to dry since I'll go for a two tone color scheme. Silver and black.

Nobody posting in this thread probably means it isn't possible to make it look like a real model kit lol. I'm begining to think that too since the quality of the plastic and the accuracy of the panel lines are so bad.

the top shot with the roof does make me agree with you that they just copied it off an existing mold (the 4 raised parts on the roof should extend more if it didn't have a sunroof).

Exactly, the four raised sections are longer in Pajeros those don't have the sunroof option. I took some measurements of the body and its 3.2 inch wide. The 1:1 has a width of 70.08. So the scale of this one is approximately 1:22.

The problem is there is no headlight housing in the mold, just two big holes and the headlights are not of the right shape and they are red . I mean what were they thinking man lol?

Now I have to make the clear parts myself.

So hows your Pajero coming along?

Hey Rob, its worse than just awful lol.

Now since I already started to work on it, I'll make sure that I properly get the job done. I have some interesting ideas for this one

they might have been smoking something when they made the master for that nothing some plastic backing and some carving for the headlamps won't solve to get it right

are you planning to use clear styrene sheets, or the plastic just like in packaging for stuff like computer mice?

latest post on my thread's the most recent update. hopefully i'll start wetsanding the paintjob tomorrow to check for imperfections, then either start shooting another layer of silver, or start masking off the bottom half and spray the upper half with metallic green.

I just saw your latest updates and I'm speechless. Looks, details, quality, I mean it has everything. How many hours did you put into it? Looking forward to see more updates.

I wonder what they were smoking lol . For the head lights I actually need something thicker than the clear plastic used for packaging. Right now I can see a hand sanitizer bottle made of clear plastic beside my laptop. Probably that's what I'm going to use for making the headlights. I'll take pictures of it right now lol. The things I use and ways I follow to make parts & stuff is just weird but somehow they work.

Masking stuff properly is kinda hard. I wonder how Chip Foose makes it look so easy, I'm a big fan of the TV program Overhaulin' btw.
