2005 hyundai sonata timing belt
I have a 2005 hyundai sonata gls v6 with 168,000 miles. It has not run since i bought it so i took the timing belt cover off and found out the timing belt is broken. i was wondering what kind of motor this is and if the valves will be bent or if i could just replace the belt. I basically want to know if this is worth having fixed or just getting rid of it, and a ballpark price maybe. thank you

Re: 2005 hyundai sonata timing belt
1) Pull all the plugs + turn engine over by hand!
If noise or locked up, it's an interfearence type engine, and the valves are bent. If ''ok'', put cylinder 1 on TDC. 2) Set all the timing marks + put a new timing belt on. 3) Check the compression on each cylinder. Also see http://www.alldata.com |

It looks like the Intake manifold needs to come off to get to the rear plugs, also
Yes - you have a interference type engine. How much did you pay for her? |

Re: 2005 hyundai sonata timing belt
well if we have determined this is an interference type motor then we pretty much established the valves are most likely bent and its not worth fixing.. right?

Re: 2005 hyundai sonata timing belt
It depends on how much you paid for her + DIY project.
Check KBB + NADA for value 1st. You might just have bent valves on one bank, so you might only need to fix one head. |
