My dad has had around 4 to 5 various mustangs, but the kicker is my moms 1970 Ford Mustang Twister Special 428 Cobra Jet. She sold it before I was born to a man who later stripped it down into a stock car racer.........sad thing.

Re: what classic cars are in your family?

some of the posts show me some of you are to young to know what a classic cars is !
we have 1966 chevy impala, 1958 ford ranchero (2)
1958 ford tudor 300 351m, 1978 ford ranchero 351c
1965 plymouth fury.
but thanks to all the new EPA regulations classics are being crushed by the hundreds and real parts are getting hard to find.
I do like what the new generation is doing with some of the cars but give me a solid steel set of wheels any time

Well, I personally own a 1970 MGB GT, my brother Jason is buying a 1969 Ford Galaxie with a 390, my brother William owns two mid 70's Firebirds and my Uncle Tom owns a 1968 Mustang notchback with a 289ci and automatic trans.

But the real collector is my cousin Barry. Cousin Barry runs a Grainger insurance agency, alongside of an advertising/marketing agency and a design/graphics art firm. Cousin Barry's collection goes like this.

-1978 Ferrari 308GTB "Quattrovalvole" formerly owned by Roger Penske.
-1968 Mini Cooper S 1275 blue w/white stripes (he keeps it behind his couch in his entertainment room)
-1959 Buick Le Sabre hardtop custom "Lo Sabre". Yes, my cousin owns and designed the Lo Sabre.
-1966 Cadillac Coupe de Ville custom in progress w/4inch roof chop and custom 18in one piece billet "sombrero" wheels.
-1995 Corvette ZR-1. Last year of ZR-1 production, 3200 original miles.
-1959 Chevy Impala. White w/red interior. Factory tri-power 348 with 3spd, fully optioned. 150original miles.
-1957 Ford Thunderbird. Factory continental kit, turquoise paint with matching interior, four barrel 292 w/manual trans, less than 400original miles.
-1966 Corvette roadster. 427 L72 code, knockoffs, rear exit exhaust, black, 4spd wide ratio. NCRS top 100 restoration.
-1967 Corvette coupe (this is the car my brother Jason told Barry he would gladly kill a man for) L71 code 427, 4spd, red with black stinger stripes, redline tires, factory side pipes, rally wheels, black interior, 1700 original miles.
-1993 Dodge Viper RT/10. Production #11.

Of course, Barry isn't completely satisfied with the collection. He most wants a V12 Ferrari with carbs. He was going to swap the ZR-1 and the 308 for a 512BB, but the deal fell through when he drove the 512 and found it was a little rattly and unkempt for the money. In fact, I remember him saying after he got back from looking at the car "Only way that car only has 2000 miles is if all of them were done at Sebring."

Re: what classic cars are in your family?

My current project cars are a 1964 Chevrolet Bel Air 2dr, undergoing restoration, and a 1973 Ford Gran Torino 4 dr. I probably will put the Torino up for sale when the weather gets better to concentrate on the Bel Air. It's hard to do restorations on 2 cars when you're married with 2 kids, and doing extensive remodeling to your home. There just isn't enough money available !

Sounds nice. First year for Twilight Sentinel. Car Life magazine tested a '64 SDV (March, 1964) and got some impressive acceleration times, especially considering its weight:

Engine/hp.......... 429/340
Torque.............. 480
Curb weight....... 4,900 lbs
Rear axle ratio.... 3.21:1
0-30 mph........... 3.4 secs.
0-60 mph........... 8.5
0-80 mph........... 14.1
0-100 mph......... 23.5
1/4 mile............. 16.4 secs @ 86 mph
Top speed.......... 121 mph (4,650 rpm)
Passing:40-60 mph. 3.7 secs.
.......... 50-70 mph. 4.5 secs.
.......... 30-70 mph. 7.6 secs.
Fuel mileage.......... 9-12 mpg.
