Exclamation Autocross FAQ!!!

Who can participate?

Anyone, if your car runs and the wheels are not about to fall off you can enter. It does not matter how fast your car is, Ferrari to Corolla, they have a class for you

What do I need to enter?

You’ll need to show up early to sign up, schedules should be posted on your division’s website, pay the entry fee, usually $25 for everybody or $15 if you are an SCCA member.

Does my car have to be prepared?

No it just has to be safe, good brakes working seatbelts etc.

Are there any autocross events in my area?

Unless you live in the middle of the ocean chances are that you’ll find something close to you.
Go here to find the websites concerning your area…..they should be posting all the details you’ll need:
http://www.scca.org/Inside/Index.asp...gionalSites&~=

What do I need to bring?

Sun protection…….I cannot stress this enough!!!
Cooler with lots of drinks.
A sun umbrella would be nice.
Comfortable shoes and clothes.

What should I do the first time?

Go to someone that looks official and tell them you are a noobie….they will help you….everyone is very nice to you the first time….they’ll tell you everything you want to know.

How is the atmosphere?

Its amazing…there is no animosity, everyone helps, there is no trash talking, only cool people helping each other and sharing a passion.

Do they always use the same track layout for Solo2?/Do they use old track layouts that they've used before?

No! ocasionally they will re-use old layouts from nationals for a local event (as, not everyone is a national competitor) variety is what helps make solo2 so great.(Contributed by ac427cpe)

If you're not gonna use the regular seatbelt use at least a 5 point belt, with a 3 in webbing attached to a proper mouting point (behind your shoulders). Also with a race harness absolutelly make sure you have a roll bar!!!!

Re: Autocross FAQ!!!

minimum age changes in every region. some have fj cart insurance and allow children as young as 7 or 8 to compete. most regions have a minimum requirement of a driver's license though.

Re: Autocross FAQ!!!

Just FYI

In the United Kingdom Autocross is held on temporary tracks created in stubble or grass fields. The cars compete for the best times and not for race placings although 2 or 4 cars can go off the line at once. It is a non-contact sport although with 4 cars on a narrow dirt track contact does happen. the cars are generally not road-legal with all lights and interiors stripped out. cars can vary from very basic saloons with minimum safety mods to properly designed and prepared racers. The events is a cheap way into motorsport with many drivers graduating to rally or rallycross which require much more commitment and finance.

Rallycross is a full race formula held on permanent tracks which combine tarmac and dirt or shale sections. The regulations are very stringent and the top cars are very highly developed race cars doing 0-60 in 3 secs.

There is no equivalent to US style Autocross or Solo in the UK which is a great pity. The closest is autotesting which is held in a very small space and uses 1st gear and reverse to flick and spin a car through a very tight course. Not a discipline I think many US cars would be good at I would like to see a Solo type event in the UK as I think it would bring in a new group of car enthusiasts to the motorsport community.
