Biggest tires for 94 Caravan
Hello I have a 94 Caravan and 94 Grand Voyager. Neither of these vehicles have a hitch standard but I had them installed at uHaul. The hitch rides so low that it hits and scrapes the ground sometimes on inclines and such. My question is what are the biggest tires that I can safely install to get a little more clearance from the ground without the tires rubbing? The vehicle standard is 205 70 15 & 15 x 6 aluminum rims.

Re: Biggest tires for 94 Caravan
Is the rear sagging? I have a hitch on my 02 and even with the stock 16" tires (which are not much larger in circumference than your 15") I don't have clearance issues. Sounds like you need air/helper shocks.

Re: Biggest tires for 94 Caravan
Yes even when the van is empty and not hauling anything the bottom of the hitch scrapes on the ground when entering driveways and alleyways etc..
So is it the last number in a tire size that determines the height? You have 16 inch, are these on the 15 inch rims? Do you still have a bit of clearance for even larger tires? |

Re: Biggest tires for 94 Caravan
I have just under 9" of ground clearance to the lowest part of my hitch assembly. Even when my trailer is attached (and that drops me down to about 5-6" of clearance) I only scrape on sharp steep angles. Overall tire size is a function of the entire formula. I believe that the 215/75 R15 tires have the same overall diameter as the 225/60 R16.

Re: Biggest tires for 94 Caravan
Here's a handy tire size calculator that you can compare tire sizes with.
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCal...?action=submit Diameter is the height of the wheel rim the tire goes on. So, no, a 16 inch tire won't fit on a 15 inch rim. Some other issues you might want to look at are new rear shocks, maybe something like Monroe's Sensatrac Load Adjusting Twin-tube Shock Absorbers. I intend to put a set of those on my T&C. Another option would be putting on Timbren rear suspension enhancement kits: http://www.etrailer.com/susp-1994_Ch...nd+Country.htm |
