Re: Vip's Celica All-Trac Project

June 5th 2008 - I've been troubleshooting wiring problems for the past few weeks. I finally got my AEM EMS working, so the car is getting spark now. Still isn't cranking. Looks like I'm getting low voltage at the fuel pump. After some troubleshooting, I'm only getting about 7-8 volts out of the Circuit Opening Relay. Hopefully when I get that replaced, the car will finally crank.

Re: Vip's Celica All-Trac Project

June 15th 2008 - My Alltrac is back on the road as of this weekend. Everything is running great.. I haven't had any leaks or anything. I'll be tuning it this week.

Re: Vip's Celica All-Trac Project

So what makes this project special enough that it gets to be important on in the racing forums as opposed to in the members projects section?

Re: Vip's Celica All-Trac Project

that's what I was wondering, i mean, we like you, we really do, but there is a "Member's project" section devoted to just this thing. Keeping this out of place would only cause havoc and chaos in the forums to ensue.

I'm not sure why it was placed up there. I did not ask anyone to put it there.

Re: Vip's Celica All-Trac Project

July 11th 2008 - Took the car down to the 1/8th mile track in Irvington, AL. This was the first time that I've launched my car since I got it back together. My 2-step isn't working correctly yet, so my launches weren't that great. I am running 17-18 psi. Still running a very conservative tune on the AEM EMS. I have much power still left untapped!

60' - 1.92
330' - 5.51
1/8th - 7.87
MPH - 83.6

Re: Vip's Celica All-Trac Project

September 17th 2008 - Removed the head. The head had a small oil leak from the head gasket. I had re-used my HKS head gasket and some of the coating material had peeled off, causing oil to slightly leak out. Ordered a Cometic gasket for MUCH cheaper than the HKS, car should be back up in a week or so.

Re: Vip's Celica All-Trac Project

November 12th 2008 - Time for a new engine!

Last Sunday I got the Alltrac running again. It was down for a couple months for a head gasket job and some other small things. So anyway, did some tuning and it was running great. Later on that night on my way home, I was doing a 3rd gear pull, heard a "boom". The car still drove just fine and boosted good. I came up to a red light and heard a knocking sound that sounded like rod knock.. shit. Took it home and parked it. Compression test: 160, 120, 110, 150. Hmm.. engine is coming out.. again.

Pulled the engine out last thursday and I didn't open the engine up until tonight. Here is the extent of the damage.

At least my Eagle rods are still able to be salvaged!

Time to sleep.

5S-FE crank ground for 3S-GTE rods
ACL Race bearings (rods)
Toga/King Race bearings (crank)
twosrus timing belt tensioner stud kit

Re: Vip's Celica All-Trac Project

March 3rd 2009 - I decided to go with a 5S-FE block instead of the 3S-GTE block. I picked up a good 5S block from the junk yard for cheap. I drilled holes in the block to match the coolant passages of the 3S-GTE head. Dropping off my head and block at the machine shop tomorrow. I also had my oil pan modified to fit the ARP main studs.

New Parts:
Custom Wiseco 8.3:1 stroker pistons from ATS Racing
Engle valve springs from ATS Racing
HKS 264/264 cams
ATS adjustable cam gears
Motoria (xspower) 3" mandrel bent exhaust
MSD 6A ignition box
MSD Blaster 3 Coil
MSD Tach Adapter

Re: Vip's Celica All-Trac Project

March 23rd 2009 - Got my head back from the machine shop. Still waiting on the block and rotating assembly.

I also sent my injectors out to WitchHunter.com to be cleaned and flow tested. Sent them out on Monday and got them back on Saturday. EXCELLENT service!

Started to assemble my head. The valves and springs are in. Just need to shim the valves now.
