Cayenne Hybrid? NEVER!!!
This is a stab in the heart to any Porsche loyalist:
http://www.pistonheads.com/porsche/d...p?storyId=9760 A Porshce Cayenne HYBRID? I sure hope not. In this article, Porsche is rumored to buy Toyota's Hybrid Technology, and put it to use in the Cayenne. If they did this, it would further dull the brands appeal as a spotrs car manufacturer. With the arrival of the Cayenne a year or two ago, Porsche loyalists (including myself) vomited at the thought of a Porsche SUV, which is an oxymoron. And if they produce a hybrid Cayenne, God have mercy on our souls. Would you honestly get un-adulterated driving pleasure from knowing that your creating lower CO2 emissions? Of course not. A beautiful Porsche engine is nothing to mess with, even if it is in an SUV. If there is anyone who works for Porsche, do everything in your power to see that this atrocity never see's blacktop.

The November, 2005 issue of "GT Purely Porsche" says the following on page ten:
"Following months of speculation Porsche has finally announced a hybrid-engined version of the Cayenne will become a reality by the end of the decade. As it did when designing the Cayenne, Porsche will work alongside Volkswagen in developing the hybrid drive - a combination of a traditional petrol engine coupled to an electric motor - for its four-wheel-drive SUV." |

Porsche's Plans
By JENS MEINERS | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS EUROPE 3/6/2006 Wolfgang Dürheimer, Porsche’s board member for r&d, spoke with Automotive News Europe’s Jens Meiners on Porsche’s future plans. Porsche is developing a gasoline hybrid engine with Volkswagen and Audi. Is the series production technology fully defined yet? No. We have a common project with certain “milestones” where the three companies evaluate different concepts, and there we jointly decide how to move forward together. The hybrid Cayenne will be based on the smallest available engine, the V-6. In electric mode, it will run almost without noise. We will not simulate an engine sound. |
