Shocks

I have married into a 1990 M30 Coupe. Nice car, but it has 100,000+ miles on it and needs shocks. The replacements are going to cost in the vicinity of $2000+ and the car is not worth the money. The going price right now is around $2500. If I am going spend that kind of money, I'll sell it and get something else. Does anyone know of a generic interchange with the Nissan equivalent that doesn't have the active adjustable shocks?
Thanks,
Paul

Smile M30 Shock Replacement

The M30 uses strut cartridges not shocks and they aren't nearly as expensive as you might think although your dealer would like you to believe otherwise. There are several online Infiniti parts dealers who sell the strut cartridges for a decent price.... www.pinnaclenissan.com and Infiniti of Scottsdale are two that I know of. Typical online prices are around $140 each for the rear strut cartridges (part # 56210-F6625) and $160 each for the front strut cartridges (part #56105-F6625). You can order the cartridges and have your local repair shop install them for you. Installation will run about $50-70 per strut cartridge.

Tokico and Monroe also make replacement strut cartridges for the M30 but they cost much more (about $500 each) than the Infiniti factory part so I'd suggest buying the Infiniti factory part instead.

Another alternative is to remove the strut cartridges and replace them with regular shocks. By doing this you will no longer have the electronically controlled suspension but it does work fine and costs a lot less. The choice is of course up to you but using the factory part is best.
