Don't really have a #1 anime artist....but Ninja Scroll to me is one of the best manga's out there....anime wise, Robotech was an awesome anime for it's time...late 80's if I remember right. As for today, Naruto is pretty cool and Ippo was badass as well.

Dark princess, just so that you know, Initial D is a licensed series and as such those fansubs are illegal bootlegs. Please purchase the DVD's at your local entertainment chain.

As far as best artists, oh there's too many to choose from. Here's some examples of great characters by some of my favorites.

Urd (Oh! My Goddess) - Kousuke Fujishima

Meier Link & Charlotte (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust) - Yoshiaki Kawajiri and Yoshitaka Amano

D (Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust) - Yoshiaki Kawajiri and Yoshitaka Amano

Captain Harlock and Emeraldas (Galaxy Express 999, Harlock Saga, Queen Emeraldas, Maetel Legend, Space Pirate Captain Harlock) - Leiji Matsumoto

Char Aznable (Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Char's Counterattack) - Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (M.S.G and Zeta), Hiroyuki Kitazume (Char's Counterattack)

Hotohori (Fushigi Yugi) - Yuu Watase

That should be enough for now.

Re: Anime

Slayers is great.... Personal favorite? Cowboy BeBop, Trigun, Evangelion, or Lain... something like that.... Hajime Yadate and Miyazaki are both amazing writers/directors/artists to me... Love most of their work.
