MAACO's Ambassador Paint Job

Okay, so I ran a search: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...archid=2573996

...and went through several of the threads, but there are just so many opinions. Some questions I have regard some body rot and the color I want. From what I have gathered, you HAVE to do all the prep work, or they might down right destroy your car (spraying everything in sight - bumpers, lights, windshields), but do you have to tape off everything BEFORE you go there?

Also, what about body rot? The bottom of my Z24 on the passenger side has some serious body rot issues I want addresed, and it looks like I might have to weld, so if I didn't do that, they would just spray a coat on it?

Also, the color I want is shiny black; would that be one of the "safest" colors because it's...well...black? In other words, while a coat of red may have a propencity to turn a lighter color after years, black will only maybe lose its shine?

I am just curious. This commercial runs all the time, and I am a student and can't honestly afford much more than that, not to mention not wanting to dump much more into my car at about 13 years old already, and the floor board has some rust issues as well.

I look forward to hearing any responses here.

From personal experience, MAACO is a waste of time and money.

With body work you get what you pay for, I would bring it to a real body shop and have it done right if you really want to do this.

Re: MAACO's Ambassador Paint Job

How much would it be to paint the car myself? It's an older model Z24 which I'm trying to avoid sinking too much money into. I wonder if black would be alright as a color.

Black would show every imperfection on the car. For paint and materials (of any decent quality) you're looking at about $500.
