540 1997 steering wheel shakes

hi .every time i run 50 miles per hour i feel shaking on my steering wheel..i did balance on my tire and alignment..still the same..can you help me...

I had same problem found it to be the rear wheels out of balance

These cars and earlier 5 and 7 series cars, use a tension or thrust arm in the front suspension geometry, which has a large rubber busing on the end that mounts to the chassis. When this bushing wears, the suspension is able to move forward and aft more than is normal and any slight out of round or out of balance wheel will magnify the movement into the classic 50-65mph shimmy. Have the bushings checked, replaced if needs be and a good balancing of your wheels and all will be good...

Yup- sound like thrust arm bushings to me.
Don't tighten them too much when installing or they'll bind.

These 540's and 740's series have two lower ball joints the one that goes from the spindle to the back (the other goes to the middle of the car) will cause this problem now once you done installing it do not tight the bushing part until the weight of the car is completely resting on the ground that is to prevent bushing from twisting and fail prematurely
