Question Instrument cluster interchange ???

Have a simple question.
Will the instrument cluster from an '02 Chrysler T&C interchange with an '02 Dodge Grand Caravan EL ?
What other years interchange ?

I ask because our Dodge has a "slow" speedo (by about 10MPH) and the Chrysler clusters seem more available + they are prettier...........

Re: Instrument cluster interchange ???

Not sure on the interchange. Have you tried a cluster self test to check accuracy? Here's how:

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - SELF-DIAGNOSTICS
The instrument clusters are equipped with a self diagnostic test feature to help identify electronic problems. Prior to any test, perform the Self-Diagnostic Test. The self diagnostic system displays instrument cluster stored fault codes in the odometer display, sweeps the gauges to the calibration points, and bulb checks the warning indicators. When the key is in the ON position with the engine not running, the MIL will remain illuminated for regulatory purposes.

To activate the Self-Diagnostic program:
With the ignition switch in the OFF position, depress the TRIP ODOMETER RESET button.
Continue to hold the TRIP ODOMETER RESET button until Sof and a number (software version number (i.e. Sof 3.2) appears in the odometer window then release the button. If a fault code is present, the cluster will display it in the odometer display. When all fault codes have been displayed, the cluster will display “end” in the odometer display. Refer to the INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC'S table to determine what each trouble code means. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC'S DTC DESCRIPTION
100.0 LOOP-BACK FAILURE
100.1 ABS COMMUNICATION FAULT
100.2 BCM COMMUNICATION FAULT
100.3 EATX COMMUNICATION FAULT
100.4 FCM COMMUNICATION FAULT
100.5 ORC COMMUNICATION FAULT
100.6 SBEC/DEC/MCM COMMUNICATION FAULT
200.0 AIRBAG LED SHORT
200.1 AIRBAG LED OPEN
200.2 ABS LED SHORT
200.3 ABS LED OPEN
200.6 EL INVERTER TIME-OUT
200.7 EATX MISMATCH
400.0 EEPROM READ/WRITE FAILURE
400.1 IMPROPER POWER DOWN DETECTED

CALIBRATION TEST
The CLUSTER CALIBRATION table contains the proper calibration points for each gauge. If the gauge pointers are not calibrated, a problem exists in the cluster. If any gauge is out of calibration, replace the cluster.

CLUSTER CALIBRATION SPEEDOMETER CALIBRATION POINT
1 0 MPH (0 KM/H)
2 20 MPH (40 KM/H)
3 60 MPH (100 KM/H)
4 100 MPH (160 KM/H)

TACHOMETER
1 0 RPM
2 1000 RPM
3 3000 RPM
4 6000 RPM
FUEL GAUGE
1 EMPTY
2 1/4 FILLED
3 1/2 FILLED
4 FULL
TEMPERATURE GAUGE
1 COLD
2 1/4
3 3/4
4 HOT

ODOMETER SEGMENT TEST
If a segment in the odometer does not illuminate normally, a problem exists in the display.

ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION RANGE INDICATOR SEGMENT TEST
If a segment in the transmission range indicator does not illuminate normally, a problem exists in the display.

Re: Instrument cluster interchange ???

RIP,
Yes we ran the "self test" several times, to no avail.
I read in another thread, that the 2 pickups in the Tx, are magnetic, so our next thing is to pull them, and see if there are any steel particles on the pick ups, then reinstall.

Speedo works, it just reads about 10 MPH slow.

Will post the results, for those who follow.

PS; question remains........ will a T&C cluster interchange ?

Re: Instrument cluster interchange ???

Some adjustments to gauges can be done with a DRB3.

Had the local Tx shop run a scan with theirs.
They got the correct speed on their scanner (relative to actual ground speed) and no codes came up.

Today I pulled the cluster and took it apart. Lo and behold, there are 2 little inductance pots that just snap into the back of the cluster face, and when you put it back together, they along with the gas and temp gage snap into the circuit board with 4 pins each.

I wonder if a regular person can buy these little inductance pots ? If not. WHY NOT ?????

Both the tach and the speedo pots have the same P/N so I switched them.
Got the speedo back, though I did have to reset the speedo needle once, as she was reading 5 MPH at a stand still.

On mine, 65MPH is 2200RPM in 4th gear, and that is what she reads now. Of course, I'm running a poor mans overdrive, 215/75-15's up front.

I'm still leaning toward a new cluster, so the question remains, can I swap a Chrysler unit into my Dodge ?????

I would almost bet that the "face" with the gages from the Chrysler would plug into the "board" from the Dodge.

A trip to the "yard" may soon confirm this.

Re: Instrument cluster interchange ???

IT WORKS !!!!!
Believe it or not, I found a 2001 Chrysler T&C instrument cluster, complete with the clear plastic cover, in great shape, for $20.00 on evil-bay.
Took it apart and plugged the face plate into my Dodge circuit board with the 4 pins each for the 4 dials, and WAA LAA. Had to reset the speedo's arm just once to calibrate it, but boy, does it look and work great....
