1994 ford tempo

Ì recently purchased a 94 tempo and while doing so I ran into a problem I had a friend start the car while I'll was looking at the motor... so the motor is turning over but yet the serpentine belt is not moving...stop trying to turn the motor over and I grabbed the belt and I could easily move the belt with ease...any solutions would greatly be appreciated before I start replacing parts... Thank you

What motor?
Did the car run or did you buy it with this problem?

Well, there is always the chance that the belt resting there isn't the correct one for the engine. But more likely the belt tensioner was moved over into the untension position and locked there. Either because the spring is broken or there is some kind of debris that locked it in that position.

The rubber in the crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer) separated from the metal ring that the belt rides on. Try to move the pulley by hand in all directions to see if it is still connected.

I had to replace the pulley many times on my 94. I suggest an oem pulley not aftermarket. The aftermarkets sometimes only lasted a few months.

Re: 1994 ford tempo

The previous owners say they started it a few weeks prior to me buying it and claim it was running... they also said they had been driving it and all of the sudden the power steering went out on um... so I'll go Check the options u all gave me and see what the outcome is... thanks for the advice so far!

Well the power steering went out once the belt stopped turning. Hope they didn't drive it to long since the waterpump would have stopped also and may have over heated the engine.

That's where I would look...
