Proper jacking
Hopefully this is an easy one. What is the proper way to use a floor jack on a 1998 Intrigue? By that I mean, where should it be positioned, can you directly apply the jack to the frame or do you need something more malleable between the jack and the frame, and where to put the jack stands after I get it up. For reference, I am going to try to do new front brake pads and rotors. Thanks.

If you have the original jack, the proper location for that car would be behind the front tires...look under the car...behind the front tires and you will see a pinch weld hanging down...it runs the length of the distance between the tires (front to back)...well if you carefully you will see where (approx) 5 inches of that pinch weld hangs a little bit lower than the rest. That is where you put the ORIGINAL jack. The original jack has a slot for that pinch weld to fit into.
If you have a floor jack I would jack it up right underneath the engine cradle. Right where the cradle frame bolts go into the bottom of the car. As-in placing the jack right beneath one of the cradle to car bolts and lift the car at that point. I would only try to do ine side of the brakes at a time and I would NOT try to lift the car (in this method) high enough to fit a jack stand underneath it. Id lift the car barely enough to pull the tire off and change the pads one pair at a time. I'd leave the car on the jack, but that's just because I wouldnt be getting underneath the car and changing pads in that kind of car is a 20 minute job. Tops... |

As stated you can use the engine cradle, lower control arms, and pinch welds (if they arent rusted like mine). I usually go on the frame more towards the center on each side when jacking up, and the put jack stands on the pinch welds. Just becarefull for things like fuel and brake lines. and chock the back wheels. You will be fine.

I much appreciate the advice. The last thing I wanted to do was to damage the frame at its weak points with poor floor jack placement.
