Its a 98' chevy cavalier. An aftermarket deck was put in many years ago, but cd player quit working last year sometime. I picked up a cheaper deck from the car audio place and just put it in. Everything/all speakers is completely stock except for the cd player and no aftermarket amp or subs. I pulled out the old cd player which worked, just cd would not eject. The only wires hooked up were the 8 speaker wires +/-, red power, yellow remote, and black ground. There were 2 other wires from the car that were not hooked up, and mind you the sound worked just fine. None of the wires coming from the car seemd to match in color to the old wiring harness. Since it worked before though, i just hooked them up 1 at a time to the new deck. Everything worked fine, radio/cd and sound from all 4 speakers. It appears that whoever installed the deck the first time broke the trim, and there was plastic broke back in the dash. I had the same issue with the deck not fitting all the way back as I beleive it was hitting plastic and wires pushing it in. We reworked the wires reaching back there to try and get them out of the way, some pulling and tugging insued....When it seemed as if it would finally go all the way, i turned it on 1 more time to make sure we didnt pinch any wires and there is now no sound coming from any speakers, but the display is working fine running through radio stations and playing cd's. I rechecked all the wires to make sure nothing was pulled apart, all my crimps were good, I do not see any speaker wires that are exposed or possibly grounding out. Im stuck, anyone have any ideas? is it possible it could have been hooked up wrong in the first place? and the sound i got at first was a fluke? thanks
