"plus one" tires for gmc yukon
Back in the 80's there was a trend to plus one's on your vehicle, ie, increasing your tread width and decreasing your aspect ratio, in order to use the same rims. I'm thinking of doing this on a 200 4WD Yukon. Is it worth it? Any pitfalls? I did this on a Citation back in the 80's and liked the results, but vehicles have changed.

Which version of the Yukon do you have and what size are you running now? That would help us give an informed answer for you.

It's a 2004 4wd Yukon with the stock Firestone 265/70-16's.

The only other size we have test fit is a 265/75-16 which would be a little taller but the same width. The way the sizes run, there is no tire that would be wider and keep you at the same width. There would not be any benefit going wider on the stock rims anyway. They pretty much maxed it out on the stock rim width with a 265 width.

Re: "plus one" tires for gmc yukon
Nowadays it's a lot more than "plus one". While I think the 20" plus bling rims look silly, they are very popular here in Southern California.
If it was MY truck, I'd look at 18s. You're going to be spending several hundred dollars or more and in my opinion the 17's don't look different enough to justify the outlay. And if you have the bucks to spare, like the look and don't mind the ride and performance compromises, more expensive tire replacements, etc. then go for the big 'uns! |
