Re: Tamiya 1/12 Enzo Ferrari..... Whats in the box... First Look

I've got it!
After several days of FedEx misery I finally got my hands on the kit.
And although you KNOW, 1:12 is big, you really are surprised by how big it really is.
And I haven't even started getting that thing out of the box, yet

'fI was you, I'd take cell phone pics along the way - a photo record may be your only hope of getting it all back in the box!

I'd love to see SMS do a kit for it. Although what could possibly be improved upon? I would love to get one! I can't to seem not open this thread every time i log on to AF.

Was a good tip about taking pics with the phone, it would indeed be difficult to put it all back together
Whoever is interested, these are my pics:

Re: Tamiya 1/12 Enzo Ferrari..... Whats in the box... First Look

For anyone else, like me, who has been following this thread with interest, I've done a round-up of on-line shops to see who has the best deal. I'm not the biggest Enzo fan, but that kit looks spectacular, and I'm getting reeeeeallllly tempted. Since it's a pricey kit, it pays to shop around.

Here are the best prices* I've found:

Hobby Search: $331 (kit) + ~ $60 (shipping) = $391 (total) http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10176163
Lucky Model: $336 (kit) + $15 (shipping) = $351 (total) http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=TA%2012047
HLJ: $295 (kit) + $56 (shipping) = $341 (total) http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM12047
Hobby Easy: $295 (kit) + $40 (shipping) = $335 (total) http://www.hobbyeasy.com/en/data/8ax...l?t=1334590019
EricYY: $285 (kit) + ~ $36 (shipping) = $311 (total) http://erichmodel.tripod.com/

Calculated using roughly similar air mail shipping, with delivery in around 10 days. You could save some money with surface (and wait a few months), or fork out for faster delivery, but IMO regular Air is the best bet. Also, 1999 and EricYY aren't as straightforward with shipping costs as the rest, so there's some estimation involved, but it should be in the ballpark, I think. Maybe +/- $5 or so, but it shouldn't change the rankings any.

So.... are there any other retailers worth listing? Anyone else who is similarly priced? I was going to include Best Balsa, but they don't seem to have the kit in stock yet.

*since they're all dealing in foreign currency, exact US prices will vary, though they should stay the same in relation to each other.

Re: Tamiya 1/12 Enzo Ferrari..... Whats in the box... First Look

I have just called in to my local hobby shop in Newmarket, Auckland and they have the Enzo sitting on the shelf with a sticker price of NZ$699

At todays exchange rate that is US$567.

No, I didn't buy it. I can understand why the local hobby shop is an endangered species with this level of pricing.

I see you're in the UK.....
When did you order the kit?
How long has it taken to arrive?
Did you get 'stung' with import duty?
If so, how much?
Lots of questions!!!!!!
Still awaiting mine excitedly!!!!
Roy.

For reference about the Enzo, I just ordered this, because I didn't for the 1:24 already

Have yet to make my mind up about color choice and so on. Perhaps a few more months wait for some aftermarked detailing or carbon fiber decals?
Let's wait and see

Re: Tamiya 1/12 Enzo Ferrari..... Whats in the box... First Look

SMS's photo CD is definitely highly recommended- I'd call it the most useful and valuable enhancement for either the 1/24 or 1/12 kit. The pics are smaller then they should be, but it is otherwise it is one of the best all in one type references that I've seen.

This thread really boosts my interest in building the "small, old" 1/24 kit. But it also reminds me just how ugly the Enzo was....
