Exclamation 97 Ram 1500 Stalling. HELP

HI, I just replaced the spark plugs, pcv valve, and oil and filter myself and now my truck is stalling at idle speed in gear. Could the pcv valve cause this or do you think it has to do with the spark plugs. 5.2 liter v8

Any Ideas are appreciated, Thanks, Jeff

Re: 97 Ram 1500 Stalling. HELP

Are your plugs gapped correctly?

Are you ABSOLTUTLY sure that you didn't crack a plug when installing it? Maybe dropped it on the floor? It's very easy to crack the ceramic!

Also, are your wires on correctly? Maybe you didn't one back on right, or busted it when you took it off?

Make sure you didn't knock off a vacuum hose.

If you have more than 60,000 miles on your truck, toss some new wires, cap and rotor on too. You can do all of that for less than $50.00.

Ahh.... the plugs were gapped at the factory. Pull them and check them! You might be surprised.

I have a 98 5.2 Dodge RAM, your cap and rotor are in the back of the motor. Just take your air cleaner off and it's not too bad to access.

Just to be sure, you should be able to shake the new PCV valve and hear it rattle. A new one could be defective, but not likely.

I have a 5.9L V8, and had intermittent stalling. I had to replace the IAC (Idle Air Control). I havent had a problem since. I am not sure if you have the same problem, but I thought I would throw this in...

i had a stalling problem that i thought i would never fix. even the mechanics were stumped. while examinind the underside of the truck i found a wire hanging above the drive shaft to the front axle. the seathing was worn off and when it was hitting the drive shaft in 4 wheel drive it woold ark across and shut the pickup off.

The IAC is on the throttle body, take it off and clean it with some carb. cleaner, also while you ahev the t-body off clean inside of the barrelsopen it up and you will probably see a good amount of build up on the walls. Hope this helps

Re: 97 Ram 1500 Stalling. HELP

My two cents:
THe IAC is cheap. Replace it. When it does go bad, it'll leave you in a parking lot, and Very pissed off!

Usually it'll only give you trouble when tou try to start or idle. If you're driving when it fails, you're still going to get where you're going, just not back!

Cleaning the throttle body is an excellent idea too.

Also, the damn IAC going bad will foul your brand new plugs very quickly (1 day or so, depending on idling time in traffic.). So check them again, once the ordeal is over.
