1996 Saab 900SE tonneau cover

The tonneau cover will not open all the way without assistance. A mechanical noise is present at one of the hinges during the opening and closing sequences.

When the top is raised, the tonneau cover will not lock in place - so the rear window stops about six inches above where it's supposed to seat itself. When the top is lowered, the tonneau cover does not lock down and there is a warning chime and a notice to check latches.

I know this is a dealer repair, but I hope someone can give me an idea of what the problem is so I'm better informed when I take the car in.
