US versions of Celica 1971 to now
Here is all the US versions of the Celica, I was going to add engine types/codes/ BHP aswell but got sick of doing the research, maybe someone else can add to it. Hope this helps someone out there in there quest for a Celica -
1971 - The original Celica was equipped with a carbureted four-cylinder 1.6 litre engine (8R-C SOHC ) Available only in ST form and as a two-door sport-coupe. A four-speed manual is the only transmission option. 1972 - the larger 18R-C engine replaces the original but the lowered compression ratio with a 11-horsepower loss. A three speed automatic is now available 1974 - saw the addition of the GT model with a two-liter engine that would, in various versions, power Celicas for the next 11 years. 1975 - 18R-C engine gives way to the 20R, a redesigned R-series motor 1976 - the Celica line was enlarged with the addition of the liftback model, available only in GT trim. The GT package included the larger engine, offered sportier handling, higher-grade trim. 1978 - The second generation Celica was released, and was again available in both ST and GT. Power was provided by 2.2-liter engines for both models. 1980 - The Celica was again redesigned, with a different front-end. 1981 - A bored-out 2.4 liter version of the 20R the 22R, was put in the ST and GT. The Celica "Supra" also received a new engine in 1981, the 5ME - the only year of its production. 1982 - The third generation Celica was released. Now powered by 2.4-litre engines. 1983 - Toyota added the GT-S model to the Celica. The GT-S included larger wheels and tires, fender flares, sports suspension, and a sports interior . The new GT-S and the GT both receive the 22RE 4-cylinder, with 105 horses with EFI 1986 - The fourth Generation of Celica, It was an all-new vehicle with front-wheel-drive, a rounded body and new 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-cam engines. Celica was now available in ST, GT and GT-S trim, all available as either coupe or liftback models. STs and GTs came with a 116-horsepower engine, while the GT-S was given a 135-horsepower version of the same 2.0-litre engine with front-wheel-drive and four-wheel independent suspension.engines available - the single cam 2S-E to the racing-bred 3S-GE. 1988 - Toyota introduced the "ultimate Celica", the All-Trac Turbo. With full-time all-wheel-drive and a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. 1990 - The fifth generation Celicas were introduced. They received upgraded wheels and tires, and more power. The GT and GT-S engines grew to 2.2-liters (5S-FE), while the ST had a 1.6-liter (7A-FE with 115hp), all with DOHC 16-valve. An All-Trac model, with 200-horsepower turbocharged engine (16-valve 3S-GTE) was also introduced and was the most powerful Celica yet. 1994 - The sixth-generation Celicas were introduced. Celica was only available in ST and GT configuration for the 1994 model year, but the addition of the optional "sports package" to the GT produced GT-S like handling. The All-Trac model was dropped in the USA – (tough luck guys) Celicas were available in either coupe or liftback form, with the GT sports package available only on the liftback. 1995 - Saw the third generation convertible. Built off of the GT Coupe model, (The vehicle arrives in the U.S. as a partially assembled vehicle. At ASC, the roof is removed and a three-layer insulated and power-operated top is installed) 1996 - Celica received optional side skirts to improve its aerodynamics, as well as a redesigned rear spoiler. Also available were optional driving lights in the redesigned grill area (standard on GT models). 1997 - Discontinuation of the GT Coupe model. 1998 - ST model was discontinued. All Celicas (Coupe, Liftback and Convertible) were now GT model’s. 1999 - Elimination of the Coupe grade. Celica was now only available in GT Liftback and GT Convertible. 2000 - Arrival of the seventh Generation of Celica, styled at Calty Design Research, Inc., in Newport Beach, The Celica GT-S is powered by a 1.8 liter, four-cylinder DOHC all-aluminum engine that generated 180 horsepower at 7,600 rpm and 133 lbs./ft. of torque at 6,800 rpm. The GT-S powerplant, (co-developed with Yamaha) uses variable valve timing and lift, with intelligence control (VVTL-i) that increased the intake/exhaust lift when the engine speed was high to improve output and fuel efficiency. The GT model’s 1.8-liter, four cylinder came equipped with VVT-i and produced 140 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 125 lbs./ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm. The GT-S model comes with either a six-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic with sport-shift. The GT version was available in five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions. All Celica engines - 1ZZ-FE - 1.8L four EFI DOHC with VVT-i, 140 HP@6400RPMs, 125lb/ft@4200RPMs Compression ratio 10.0:1 2ZZ-GE - 1.8L four EFI DOHC with VVT-li, 180 HP@7600RPMs, 130lb/ft@6800RPMs, Compression ratio 11.5:1 5S-FE - 2.2L four EFI DOHC, 1994-95 - 135HP@5400RPM, 145lb/ft@4400RPM 1996-98 - 130HP@5400RPM, 145lb/ft@4400RPM, Compression ratio 9.5:1 7A-FE - 1.8L I4 EFI DOHC, 110HP@5600RPM, 114lb/ft@2800RPM, Compression ratio 9.5:1 4A-FE - 1.6L four EFI DOHC, 103 HP@6000RPM, 102lb/ft@3200RPM, Compression ratio 9.3:1 3S-GTE - 2.0L four EFI DOHC, 1994-99 - 260HP@6500RPM (non-US only)31.0nm@4000RPM 1990-93 - 200HP@6000RPM 200@3200RPM, 1988-89 - 190HP@6000RPM 190@3200RPM - Compression ratio8.5:1 (all but 90-93 which were 8.8:1) 3S-GE - 2.0L four EFI DOHC, 135HP@6000RPM, 125lb/ft@4800RPMs, Compression ratio 9.2:1 3S-FE - 2.0L four EFI DOHC, 115HP@6000RPM, 124lb/ft@4800RPMs, Compression ratio 9.0:1 2S-E - 2.0L I4 EFI SOHC, 93HP@4200RPM, 113lb/ft@2300RPMs, Compression ratio 8.7:1 22R - 2367cc I4 SOHC, 105HP@4800RPM, 137lb/ft@2300RPMs, Compression ratio 9:1 20R - 2189cc I4 SOHC, 90HP@4800RPM, 122lb/ft@2300RPMs, Compression ratio 8.4:1 18R - 1990cc I4 SOHC, 140HP@4800RPM, Compression ratio 8.7:1 8R - 1.6L I4 Carb SOHC

Re: US versions of Celica 1971 to now
i know I'm a little behind on saying anything, maybe you should note that on the 3rd gen GT-S had an IRS. And for the 18RG it's a 2.0L and the 20R is a 2.2L. I think the US got the 18RG motor intead of the weaker 18RC in the later years, but I could be wrong on that. And I'm pretty sure that the 8RC motor is a 1.8 i think almost 1.9L with a 108hp.

Re: US versions of Celica 1971 to now
no its a dual over head cam motor, the reason why you might think its single is cuz the valves are so close together it makes the valve cover look like a SOHC enigne

Re: US versions of Celica 1971 to now
you only have one cam pully becuase its a slave gear setup....they never made a 3sfe in single cam theres only one pully that gets driven by the timing belt correct? take offf your vavle cover and inside you will see that gear is connected to the exhaust cam, and theres anothe rlittle gear inside connected to the intake cam
