Anyone seen this kit before?

My uncle gave me this kit yesterday, apparently the people that make it are IMC and I havent heard of them before. It's a 1948 Ford Converitble but you can build as a '47 or '46 too. It comes with opening hood and doors as well as either a stock top or chopped top. It also comes with a 427, optional mag wheels, hurst shifter and glasspac mufflers. It comes with so much extra stuff you don't see in kits these days it even has hinged front seats. Here are some pictures

WOW this is old. nice find. I want to warn you that this kit is probably very brittle as older models were made from older plastics that are not nearly as flexible as modern day plastics. i believe this is an Isca kit?

Keep it for "Cool" factor. It's not an easy kit to build, and has some shape problems. Just build the Revell, a much better kit. IMC did several nices kits in the day, several GT 40s, an Indy car, VW, Cougar show car, Little Red Wagon(now for Lindburg), and others I'm sure I'm not remembering right now. They also did a nice line of 1/32 scale 60's cars for the slot crowd.

Be careful, I agree with freakmech, old kits are very brittle... and they don't get better with time, it'll be a lot worse now!

I don't know yet if I'm gonna build it yet. It seems like it'd be a real pain the plastic is really brittle and hard to work with. However the windshield is crystal clear, I found that funny because everything else is all old and the chrome is in excellent condition.

No, put the box with content in your displaycase. A great disscusion-piece to show anyway (-Look guys what i found at the neighbors garagesale for 3 bucks..")

There have been a few of these on eBay over the past few weeks. It is one of the more common older IMC models available. Value is between $10 - $25 depending on condition, mostly of the box I think. I shouldn't worry about tearing into it. I think for it's day it was quite an advanced model, a look at the instructions confirms that too.

Build it, maybe mod it, smooth it out, shave everything and do it in a deep Candy Red

I believe Testors released this kit in the 80's. If my thinking is correct, this kit was the best kit of a '48 Ford until Monogram released theirs.

i cant see the point of having an unbuilt kit in a box. unless you are busy building other kits, then build it. i for one would love an opportunity to construct a classic like that, it would be a history lesson no doubt.

You are correct. I have an IMC 46/48 Ford Coupe and the same kit in a Testors box.
