Re: Silverado burnout question

I really dont think there was a traction controll option for silverados in 2002. I have a 2002 ext cab Z71 with the 5.3 & 4L60-E & posi and I was able to powerbrake it, but the tires werent spinning very fast. I think the ext cab has something to do with it, the longer frame twists more, not getting as much power to the ground. Also, untill recently, I was in the dark about the torque management system...

Re: Silverado burnout question

Not trying to brag or insult anyones intelligence or anything, but Iv'e had my '98 unmodified (at the time) 4.3L , with 100K+ miles, the stepside loaded down w/a $5,000 autobody order (hood, liftgate, doors, c-members, reinforcments, heavy stuff, etc.), A/C blastin', in rush hour traffic, on hot TX summer day, blah blah blah..........Roastin' BOTH BFG 275/60/15's, dumpin hell-a-fide smoke action with no wheel hopin' on the highway gettin' pissed of @ traffic not moving...... Moral of the story is there is no doubt that truck should smoke 'em. My theory is ya'll have been tryin' too hard. I've had moments were conditions are ideal (unloaded, no A/C, etc.) for a burnout, but only one tire starts spinning and hoping 'cause I'm tryin' to show off. Drive around a few days.... Cadillacin' it, speeed limits, A/C, slowin down @ yellows, you know...Cadillacin'....then when that motor purrs at you, go for it, roll down the windows, kill the A/C, drop it in 3rd (my truck works better in 3rd rather than 1st for some reason, try that), gently hold the brakes ans gun it!!!! Then post a picture for all of us

It seemed that way. When I tried to powerbrake it with the V6 my rpms would stay constant around 1800 and wouldnt even turn the tires...now I have trouble keeping the tires from spinning off the line. good times

i'm not really sure. I just accepted the fact that I couldn't do burnouts and never really tried again, until i put the v8 in. perhaps a programmer to change rev limiters, shift points, etc. could do the trick? again this is just a guess

Re: Silverado burnout question

Ok, I think I've figured it out for y'all. GM adds a thing called "Torque Management" into all of the 99 and newer model trucks w/ V8's. What this is for is so Gm can pass emission testing and some kind of other crap, but in the mean time, all it does it kill your power when your trying to spin, or when you start off hard...basically it kills your power until the truck sees that you really need the power then it lets you have it like when passing someone. Its a pain in the craw and I'm getting it removed when I get my Nelson tune.
